San Aurelo
San Aurelo is the polished central power of Vistall, a wealthy human nation of pale glass cities, biometric transit, elite universities, advanced medicine, financial institutions and carefully engineered civic order. Its dry central plains rise through limestone hills, mixed prairie and mesquite country toward Aurelo Prime, the continent's gleaming political and technological center.
San Aurelo presents itself as the culmination of modern human civilization. Its streets are clean, its systems efficient and its public language measured. Citizenship, housing, education, healthcare and movement are tied to verified human status beneath a national ideology of biological clarity and continuity.
Officially, demi-humans do not belong in San Aurelean civic society. In practice, they remain embedded throughout its estates, laboratories and private institutions under legal classifications that deny them personhood.

Public Identity // San Aurelo
National Identity
San Aurelo sees itself as the heart of modern human civilization. Its citizens are taught that the nation represents reason, scientific progress, safety, refinement and the disciplined civic order required for humanity to thrive.
Its cities reinforce that belief at every scale. Polished transit, immaculate hospitals, elite schools, controlled public spaces and pale glass architecture present order not merely as efficient, but as moral. San Aurelo does not describe itself as exclusionary. It describes itself as clear.
The country's definition of human dignity is therefore both central and deliberately narrow. Rights, civic belonging and legal recognition extend to those the state accepts as human. Demi-humans fall outside that definition before any individual action is considered.
The Aurelean Continuity Principle
San Aurelean doctrine teaches that stable civilization depends upon clearly maintained biological and civic categories. Human society is presented as a protected political body whose continuity requires separation from demi-human ancestry, unrestricted shifting populations and identities the state cannot classify with certainty.
The government does not officially describe this separation as hatred. It defines it as structural necessity. Under the Continuity Principle, uncertainty itself becomes a threat. Mixed ancestry, concealed traits, contradictory records and human-presenting demi-human descendants are treated as classification failures rather than ordinary variations of identity.
The Continuity Paradox
The contradiction is not a flaw in San Aurelean law. It is one of its most useful mechanisms. The legal meaning of personhood changes according to what the state requires from the individual being classified.
Demi-humans may be denied civic standing as non-human organisms, transferred through custodial law as assets, punished for intentional disobedience, and classified as security threats when they resist that same system.
The result is a legal structure in which no definition must remain consistent for long. The only constant is that the state retains authority over which definition applies.

Government
San Aurelo is governed through a highly centralized technocratic system built around the Civic Directorate and a network of ministries, courts, regulatory offices and security institutions. Authority is exercised less through public spectacle than through standards, classifications, permits and administrative review.
The government presents itself as professional, rational and evidence-driven. Its officials are expected to speak with restraint, avoid crude ideological language and frame even severe policy as a matter of stability, public safety or responsible civic management.
The result is a state in which enormous power may be exercised without anyone appearing angry. A citizenship review, custody transfer, ancestry ruling or biological integrity order can alter a life entirely while every person involved remains courteous.

Law & Status
San Aurelean rights are attached to civic classification. Residence, intelligence, adulthood, family connection and participation in society do not independently create legal personhood. A recognized human possesses civic standing. A demi-human does not.
San Aurelo officially classifies itself as a human nation. Demi-humans may enter, remain or function inside its borders only through state-recognized custodial, institutional, research, zoological, diplomatic, transport or similar authority.
Public visibility therefore does not imply freedom. The law distinguishes sharply between a person living in San Aurelo and a biological subject being kept, assigned, transferred or supervised there.
- May hold citizenship
- May establish independent residence
- May own or rent property
- May receive wages and maintain finances
- May enroll independently in education
- May access public healthcare as a civic patient
- May marry under ordinary civil law
- May inherit and operate businesses
- May travel independently
- May vote and use ordinary courts
- Cannot hold San Aurelean citizenship
- Cannot establish independent legal residence
- Cannot independently own or rent property
- Cannot hold ordinary paid employment
- Cannot maintain normal civic finances
- Cannot enroll as an independent citizen-student
- Cannot marry under ordinary civic law
- Cannot vote
- Cannot operate an independent business
- Cannot legally exist without recognized authority
The Civic Status Register
San Aurelean law does not use a single category for every demi-human. Status is assigned according to ownership, institutional purpose, biological traits, security concern and the legal function the state expects the individual to perform.
Human status is also conditional. A citizen whose ancestry becomes uncertain may enter review, while a human-presenting individual with demi-human markers can be reclassified entirely.
What Ownership Controls
Custodial status reaches far beyond physical possession. Because demi-humans lack independent civic standing, the recognized custodian or institution becomes the legal structure through which identity, residence, movement, labor and access to services are managed.
Individual circumstances vary by classification and custodian, but San Aurelean law begins from the same premise: the demi-human does not independently occupy the civic position held by a recognized human.
| Civic Right | Recognized Human | Demi-Human |
|---|---|---|
| Citizenship | Recognized | Not Recognized |
| Independent Residence | Recognized | Not Recognized |
| Paid Employment | Recognized | Not Recognized |
| Property Ownership | Recognized | Not Recognized |
| Independent Banking | Recognized | Not Recognized |
| Ordinary Civil Marriage | Recognized | Not Recognized |
| Voting | Recognized | Not Recognized |
| Independent Travel | Recognized | Custodial |
| Public Education | Recognized | Conditional |
| Healthcare Access | Civic Patient | Status Mediated |
| Legal Standing | Independent | Restricted |
| Bodily Autonomy | Civically Protected | Custodially Limited |

The Social Order
San Aurelean society is orderly, prosperous and deeply stratified. Wealth determines comfort and influence, but biological classification determines something more fundamental: whether an individual belongs to civic society at all.
Humans live across enormous differences of class, education and political power while sharing the legal privilege of recognized personhood. Hidden hybrids occupy that same society conditionally, dependent upon records remaining clean. Demi-humans are woven throughout domestic, commercial and institutional life while remaining legally outside the civic body.
San Aurelo is therefore not a society from which demi-humans are absent. It is a society taught to interpret their presence according to ownership, usefulness and classification.
Life in the Glass Nation
For a recognized human, San Aurelo can be an exceptionally comfortable place to live. Public transit is efficient, streets are clean, medical care is advanced, education is prestigious and routine civic services are deeply integrated into everyday technology.
Most citizens experience the state not through raids or courtrooms but through apartments, schools, cafés, hospitals, shopping districts and transit gates that function exactly as promised. The violence of the system is easiest to ignore when the system works beautifully for the person using it.

The Engine of Prosperity
San Aurelo is one of Vistall's most sophisticated capitalist economies, built around private enterprise, investment, technological competition and aggressive accumulation of wealth. Prosperity is treated not only as an economic goal, but as evidence that Aurelean civilization functions correctly.
Markets operate broadly and private corporations wield enormous influence, but the state remains deeply involved whenever commerce touches citizenship, biological classification, national security or Continuity policy. Private wealth is encouraged. Biological uncertainty is not.
The result is an economy that prizes competition while relying heavily on regulation, licensed identity, government contracts and legally defined access to labor and property.
Wealth in the Glass Nation
San Aurelean capitalism reaches far beyond the stock exchange. Housing, education, status, healthcare, transportation and social mobility are all shaped by participation in the wage and credit economy.
Recognized humans can build careers, accumulate property, borrow, invest and move between economic classes. Demi-humans may create considerable economic value while remaining legally excluded from the normal wage system that distributes that value.
Near-Future Civic Modernism
San Aurelo is technologically advanced without being unrecognizable. Homes still contain kitchens, sofas, phones and laptops. Streets still have cars, shops and transit stations. Hospitals still need doctors and patients still occupy beds.
The difference lies in integration. Displays no longer need physical screens, identity systems communicate automatically, homes respond to their occupants and digital infrastructure follows citizens through nearly every part of ordinary life.

The Connected City
San Aurelo's most visible technological advantage is not a single spectacular invention. It is the degree to which transportation, identity, security, commerce and municipal systems communicate with one another.
Major cities are designed around data-rich infrastructure that operates quietly in the background. To most recognized citizens, the result feels efficient. To anyone attempting to disappear, the same convenience becomes considerably less benign.

Where San Aurelo Pulls Ahead
San Aurelo's most advanced technologies remain concentrated in wealthy hospitals, universities, research institutions, major corporations and state agencies. These are the places where the country can feel significantly more futuristic than ordinary life.
Even here, technology remains an extension of existing sciences rather than a replacement for physical reality. Machines can analyze, visualize, assist and repair astonishingly well. They cannot abolish mortality or make human judgment unnecessary.

The Culture of Refinement
San Aurelan culture prizes composure, education, cleanliness, professional competence and controlled presentation. Wealth is admired, but vulgar excess is often considered less impressive than effortless refinement.
Citizens are taught that civilized people manage themselves, their homes and their responsibilities carefully. Public shouting, visible disorder, crude prejudice and uncontrolled cruelty are socially embarrassing because they suggest that someone lacks discipline.
This same philosophy shapes the treatment of demi-humans. San Aurelo does not measure humane treatment through autonomy. It measures it through proper custodianship.

Affection Does Not Cancel Ownership
Some humans genuinely love the demi-humans under their custody. They may worry over illness, celebrate birthdays, offer physical affection, purchase gifts, preserve photographs and sincerely consider a companion part of the family. San Aurelean culture sees no contradiction between emotional intimacy and legal possession. Someone can be cherished deeply while remaining unable to leave.

Companion Culture
Private demi-human ownership is deeply embedded in affluent San Aurelan culture. A well-kept household companion may be treated as a beloved dependent, prestigious acquisition, living family heirloom or visible extension of the household's identity.
The wealthier the household, the less ownership tends to resemble crude confinement. Luxury services exist for grooming, clothing, etiquette, health, accommodation, behavioral education and coordinated household presentation.
This does not weaken custodial control. It makes that control beautiful enough to be mistaken for care.

Compassion Within Boundaries
San Aurelo possesses a large humane-welfare culture surrounding demi-human custodianship. Wealthy donors, foundations, researchers and social reformers fund improved housing, medical care, enrichment standards, transportation rules and anti-neglect campaigns.
Many participants are sincere. They believe unnecessary suffering is morally wrong and consider themselves advocates for responsible treatment.
What respectable reform rarely challenges is the underlying assumption that demi-humans require human custody in the first place.
The System Does Not Require Hatred
A child can love the household companion who helped raise them, defend that companion from mistreatment and still reach adulthood believing ownership is an act of responsibility. San Aurelo reproduces its hierarchy most effectively when affection and domination are taught as compatible rather than contradictory.

Institutions of Custodianship
San Aurelo does not merely permit private demi-human ownership. It supports an entire professional infrastructure designed to administer it cleanly, legally and efficiently.
Schools train household companions. Clinics provide specialist care. Registries document ownership. Financial offices calculate value. Compliance agencies inspect estates. Transfer firms move individuals between households and institutions.
The system rarely resembles a slave market. It resembles education, healthcare, finance and household management working exactly as designed.

Heritage Lineage Conservatories
San Aurelo publicly describes its controlled reproductive institutions as centers for lineage preservation, hereditary health and responsible biological stewardship.
In practice, these facilities determine which demi-humans reproduce, which pairings are considered desirable, how offspring are classified and where those offspring will eventually be placed.
Excellent medical treatment, comfortable housing and careful developmental care can exist alongside almost complete reproductive control.

Directed Morphology Programs
San Aurelan researchers sometimes cross established demi-human lines in pursuit of a targeted morphology, inherited trait combination or reconstructed phenotype. The resulting individual is evaluated as both a living research subject and an institutional outcome. Success is defined by the program's objective, not by the health, intelligence or quality of life of the person produced.

The Institutions That Call It Humane
San Aurelo's zoological and research institutions are among the most polished on the continent. Their facilities are well funded, technologically advanced and governed by extensive welfare standards.
Artificial habitats reproduce forests, wetlands, caves and specialized climates. Research hospitals provide sophisticated medicine. Ethics boards review nutrition, housing, enrichment and medical protocols.
The central question these systems avoid is whether the institution ever had the right to confine the individual in the first place.

The Aurelean Ethics Council
The Ethics Council evaluates research facilities, medical protocols and non-civic welfare standards. Review focuses heavily on conditions of confinement: housing, nutrition, medical oversight, enrichment, documentation and custodial accountability. The legitimacy of custody itself normally falls outside the question being reviewed.

Resistance Beneath the Glass
San Aurelo is difficult to resist because nearly every ordinary system can become an enforcement system. Identity records, medicine, transportation, banking, housing and biometric access all reinforce civic classification.
Resistance therefore rarely begins with open warfare. It begins with records that disappear, doors that fail to lock, medical scans that report the wrong result, trackers that stop transmitting and people who are not where the state expects them to be.
The largest organized network operating inside this system is commonly known as the Glassbreakers.

The Unregistered
The Unregistered are not one organization. The name refers broadly to human-passing hybrids and concealed families living beneath San Aurelo's classification system.
Some cooperate with abolitionist networks. Some seek reform. Some want revenge. Many are not political at all. Their resistance consists simply of surviving another day without the state discovering what they are.
For an Unregistered citizen, an ordinary hospital visit, school application, marriage record or transit scan can become an exposure event.
Resistance technicians can corrupt, divide, bury or replace a person's digital identity, making them harder for Civic Eye and Continuity systems to track. But a person without reliable records may also lose banking, housing history, medical records, education credentials, ordinary travel access and proof of family relationships.

The Soft Hands
“Soft Hands” is a derisive name applied to wealthy or well-connected humans who privately assist demi-humans while continuing to live respectable lives inside San Aurelan society.
Their access can be extraordinarily useful. Estate owners, executives, physicians, officials and social elites can reach spaces, records and transportation systems that underground activists cannot.
Resistance groups rarely trust Soft Hands completely. Some are committed abolitionists. Others oppose only specific abuses while continuing to accept the larger custodial system.

The Service Underways
Beneath Aurelo Prime and several older urban districts, utility corridors, maintenance routes, waterworks, freight passages and obsolete service tunnels form an unofficial transportation network.
Glassbreaker couriers exploit forgotten infrastructure, compromised access systems and short gaps in Civic Eye coverage to move people between extraction sites, temporary safe flats and longer-distance transfer routes.

The Polished Center
San Aurelo does not consider itself merely one realm among several. Its government presents the country as the diplomatic, financial and scientific center of modern human civilization in Vistall.
Aurelean power is most effective when it does not look like conquest. Finance, biometric standards, legal frameworks, research partnerships, surveillance technology and international agreements allow San Aurelo to influence neighboring states without placing soldiers on their streets.
Its foreign policy therefore favors treaties, dependency and institutional pressure over open war. The objective is not necessarily to control foreign territory. It is to make foreign governments operate within systems San Aurelo understands.
Financial systems, advanced medicine, surveillance infrastructure, political cover and the bureaucratic machinery that turns coercive practices into respectable policy.
Raw materials, fortified corridors, industrial labor, detention capacity and the willingness to perform openly violent work San Aurelo often prefers to keep beyond its own polished skyline.

Enemies Across the Glass
San Aurelo's most dangerous rivals are not necessarily the states with the largest armies. They are the realms capable of rejecting the assumptions on which Aurelean law depends.
Thornwyck and Eirwold challenge San Aurelo in completely different ways. Thornwyck confronts Aurelean policy through courts, testimony and recognized demi-human personhood. Eirwold challenges the state's belief that everything important can be recorded, watched and administratively controlled.

The Unmappable Enemy
San Aurelo struggles to influence Eirwold because many of its normal instruments of control simply do not translate. Hidden settlements, decentralized communities and deep suspicion of centralized records make the forest realm resistant to surveillance-based pressure.
Eirwold is officially characterized as primitive, secretive and dangerously hostile to lawful observation. From the Eirwold perspective, San Aurelan surveillance is simply another form of trespass.

Veyrhalden
Few foreign governments frustrate San Aurelo as consistently as Veyrhalden.
Escaped companions, research subjects, hidden hybrids and other fugitives who reach Veyrhalden may find themselves protected by a government that refuses to recognize San Aurelan ownership classifications as a legitimate basis for extradition.
To San Aurelo, this constitutes organized interference with lawful custody. To Veyrhalden, the matter is much simpler: property law cannot convert a person into property merely because another government says it can.
Continuity Audit // Private Residence National Stability // Internal Pressure
The Hairline Fractures
San Aurelo's greatest threats are not outside its borders. They are built into the system itself.
San Aurelo remains wealthy, technologically advanced, politically functional and outwardly calm. Its trains still arrive. Its ministries still open. Its hospitals still gleam. The Civic Eye still watches from above immaculate streets.
The danger is quieter. The institutions that sustain the Aurelean Continuity Principle are beginning to contradict one another faster than the state can conceal the evidence. San Aurelo has not stopped functioning. It has begun discovering that several of its most important truths cannot all remain true at the same time.
Pressure Beneath the Glass
The State Denies What Its Elite Collect
San Aurelo teaches that demi-humans have no legitimate place in human civic society, while its wealthiest families privately keep, transfer, inherit and display them under licensed custodial classifications. Every immaculate estate registry is evidence against the doctrine it is meant to preserve.
The Economy Needs What the Ideology Rejects
Research, biotechnology, luxury ownership, outsourced labor, surveillance exports and foreign partnerships all benefit from demi-human bodies, data or containment. A truly demi-human-free San Aurelo would be weaker, poorer and less technologically advanced.
The People the Grid Missed
Human-passing hybrids and concealed family lines exist throughout San Aurelan society. No one knows their true number. Every exposed judge, heir, physician, student or official threatens the claim that humanity can be measured into a clean civic category.
The Young Are Watching Back
Younger San Aureleans have access to leaked files, foreign testimony, resistance media, whistleblower archives and hacked footage their parents never saw. Some still accept Continuity doctrine. Others are beginning to ask why a state so certain of its humanity needs so many scanners, sealed doors and missing records.
The Grid Is Losing Authority
Fraud, ghosting, conflicting ancestry records, hidden bloodlines, corrupted transfers and mythic markers are weakening confidence in the Purity Grid. This is larger than a database breach. Citizenship, marriage, inheritance, housing, education, border access, ownership and policing all depend on the assumption that the Grid can determine what a person is. If that assumption fails, the state's categories begin failing with it.
San Aurelo's greatest fear is not invasion. It is classification failure.
University Demonstration // Civic Security Present State Response // 2097 A.E.
When Clarity Feels Threatened
San Aurelo responds to uncertainty by measuring harder.
The government's answer to instability has not been ideological retreat. It has been intensified verification. More audits. More records. More security reviews. More scrutiny of institutions, families and citizens whose classifications once seemed unquestionable.
The result is an uncomfortable change in national mood. Systems once understood as protections against dangerous outsiders are increasingly touching respected human families, universities and political households. The machinery has not changed purpose. More people are simply discovering what it feels like when the machinery turns toward them.
The State Tightens Its Grip
01
Continuity Audits
Political families, senior officials and other sensitive populations are facing increased ancestry scrutiny. A process once associated with suspicious households is becoming common enough among the respectable class to create genuine elite anxiety.
02
Companion Disappearances
Domestic companion-class demi-humans are disappearing from wealthy estates with increasing frequency. Some cases involve forged transfers. Others leave almost nothing behind except corrupted trackers, altered service logs and owners insisting nothing unusual occurred.
03
University Dissent
Students at several major universities have organized protests around leaked research, Purity Grid abuse, personhood law and sealed institutional records. The concern is not merely the protests themselves. These campuses produce the doctors, attorneys, researchers, administrators and policymakers expected to operate the next generation of San Aurelan power.
Sympathy Contamination
A classified Bureau memorandum has used this phrase to describe growing identification with demi-human testimony among younger citizens and institutional workers. Its appearance is politically revealing. San Aurelo is no longer treating dissent solely as misinformation, radicalism or criminal collaboration. Within parts of the security state, empathy itself is beginning to be discussed as a contamination risk.
The Mythren Problem
Rumors of a mythic-origin child hidden somewhere near Lake Mythren have pushed another anxiety into national-security territory. Blue Ring security has increased, lake records have been reclassified and research access has tightened.
A confirmed living mythic line would be more than a rare biological discovery. Evidence that San Aurelo's accepted biological history is incomplete could destabilize the classifications used to justify Continuity doctrine itself. The danger is no longer only that the Grid may contain corrupted information. The more dangerous possibility is that the categories were wrong before anyone corrupted them.
When certainty weakens, San Aurelo does not loosen the system. It asks the system to measure again.
Civic Eye Network // Identity Reconciliation National Outlook // Cascading Risk
The Glass Begins to Crack
Each crisis makes the next one harder to contain.
None of San Aurelo's present crises exists alone. Data exposure affects elite confidence. Elite scrutiny makes hidden ancestry politically dangerous. Failed classifications strengthen resistance claims. Resistance successes encourage disappearances. Foreign governments turn those disappearances into legal challenges. Each pressure point feeds another.
The state can contain an isolated scandal. What it fears is a chain reaction in which citizens, institutions and foreign powers begin comparing information that was never meant to be viewed together.
Cascading Instability
Purity Grid Leak
Leaked records implicate Aurelean corporations, expose hidden ownership arrangements and deepen suspicion that official classification systems have been manipulated for political and commercial convenience.
Elite Continuity Audits
Ancestry scrutiny reaches families that built their status around biological certainty. The ruling class begins confronting the possibility that the same system used against outsiders can challenge their marriages, inheritances, careers and children.
Estate Disappearances
Companion-class demi-humans continue vanishing from elite households. Each successful extraction demonstrates that private trackers, service routes, ownership records and Civic Eye coverage are not as absolute as the state claims.
Student Dissent
Leaks that once circulated through resistance networks now reach students inside prestigious human institutions. Questions about personhood, research consent and the Purity Grid are no longer confined to people the state can easily dismiss as foreign or criminal.
Foreign Pressure
Thornwyck demands records concerning seized refugees. Veyrhalden rejects San Aurelan extradition claims. Eirwold has closed northern routes following Aurelean drone incursions. Domestic secrecy increasingly creates evidence for foreign adversaries.
Mythren Rumors
Reports of mythic-origin evidence near Lake Mythren threaten the deepest layer of the national argument: the assumption that San Aurelo possesses the scientific authority to define biological legitimacy at all.
San Aurelo Is Still Winning.
The country is not collapsing. Transit operates. Banks open. The Directorate governs. The Ministry issues certificates. Glass Families host receptions. Custody transfers are processed. Schools open in the morning and the Civic Eye continues watching from above.
That continued functionality is precisely what makes the present moment dangerous. The state does not require universal belief to operate. But beneath the routine, fewer people trust that its classifications mean what they claim to mean, fewer systems agree perfectly with one another, and more evidence survives outside official control.
San Aurelo still looks untouchable. But its glass is beginning to crack.
Aurelo Prime // Capital District Network Capital of San Aurelo
Aurelo Prime
The Human Heart. The City of Clarity. The brightest lie in Vistall.
Aurelo Prime is the capital of San Aurelo and the most complete expression of everything the nation believes about itself. It is a vertical city of white stone, reflective glass, silver transit lines, pale-blue holo-light, biometric gates, civic plazas, elite universities, private sky estates, corporate towers and carefully maintained public order.
The Civic Directorate governs from here. The Ministry of Human Continuity maintains its records here. National surveillance networks converge here. The country's most prestigious schools, courts, research hospitals, financial institutions and political families all occupy the same immaculate urban machine.
To recognized human citizens, Prime represents the success of modern civilization. Transit is fast. Streets are clean. Crime is low. Services are efficient. Parks are manicured. Architecture reaches upward in white, silver and glass beneath the gold stars of national continuity.
Aurelo Prime does not feel openly violent. It feels curated. Unpleasant systems are moved behind restricted doors, buried beneath infrastructure, assigned cleaner terminology or routed through service networks most citizens never need to enter.
The city depends on people learning the difference between what exists and what counts. Demi-humans may be physically present throughout Prime while remaining legally absent from civic society. They may serve, guard, perform, assist, clean, carry, accompany, test, maintain or wait. They may simply never be recognized as independent residents doing any of those things.

Public Life // Central Commercial Corridor Public Life // Selective Perception
The Brightest Lie
Officially, Aurelo Prime is human-only. Reality is considerably more crowded.
For recognized humans, ordinary life in Aurelo Prime is comfortable enough to make the political system feel abstract. A resident can leave a smart apartment, clear a biometric door without thinking, take the Silver Line to work, purchase coffee through a wrist-comm, cross an immaculate civic plaza and spend an entire day surrounded by technology that recognizes them correctly.
That ease is one of the city's most powerful ideological tools. A system that works beautifully for most recognized humans does not feel oppressive to the people for whom every door opens.
Demi-humans are nevertheless woven throughout the capital. The difference is that their presence must remain attached to a human, institution, corporation, estate, research program or approved custodial purpose.
The important thing is that none of this appears exceptional. Humans continue eating, shopping, commuting and talking around them. There is no need for constant visible violence when the legal categories have already established who is permitted to decide and who is expected to comply.
Aurelo Prime survives through selective perception. Citizens are not required to know every detail of the ownership system. They are only required to accept that the quiet attendant belongs where they were placed, that the private elevator has a legitimate purpose, that the sealed hospital floor is restricted for good reason, and that a person accompanied by a custodian is not actually moving through the city independently.
They do not live in Aurelo Prime. They are kept, transferred, displayed, studied or assigned.
The city teaches its citizens not only to obey. It teaches them what does not need to be noticed.
Civic Crown // Government District Aurelo Prime // Central Government District
The Civic Crown
Where San Aurelo looks most noble, and where its definitions acquire the force of law.
The Civic Crown is Aurelo Prime's political and administrative center, a monumental district of white stone, vertical glass, broad plazas, formal gardens, fountains and government towers arranged around the visible machinery of the San Aurelan state.
The Civic Directorate governs from here. Citizenship is verified here. Biological status is challenged here. Custodial ownership is licensed here. National policy is announced beneath gold stars while citizens cross polished plazas between institutions capable of rewriting an entire family's legal existence.
Yet the Civic Crown is not a sealed fortress. Human citizens visit for administrative appointments, court hearings, school records, inheritance matters, ceremonies, protests, tours and public events. Cafés and transit entrances sit beside government halls. Office workers eat lunch beside fountains. Families pose for photographs beneath continuity monuments.
That accessibility is part of the district's authority. San Aurelo does not present government as something distant from ordinary life. It presents government as the clean architecture through which ordinary life becomes possible.
Government as Landscape
National ceremonies occupy the same plazas used for demonstrations. Directorate employees pass tourists beneath banners celebrating continuity. Court clerks, attorneys, Ministry reviewers, security personnel, journalists and political aides move through an environment designed to make authority feel permanent without making it feel threatening.
Even surveillance is incorporated into the architecture. Cameras disappear into lamp housings. Security drones circle above landscaped terraces. Biometric checkpoints resemble elegant information kiosks. Public holo-displays offer directions, announcements and civic reminders while quietly participating in the same identity infrastructure that governs access elsewhere in Prime.
The district does not need to look like power is being imposed. It was built to make power look like order.
Ministry of Human Continuity // Public Service Hall Civic Administration // Status & Classification
The Machinery of Continuity
In the Civic Crown, lives change through appointments, records, reviews and signatures.
Much of San Aurelo's control begins without police intervention. A citizen receives an appointment. A record develops an inconsistency. A marriage application requires additional review. An inheritance cannot be released. A school enrollment remains pending.
Civic Crown institutions transform those administrative moments into legal reality. Their halls are quiet, bright and meticulously organized. Citizens take numbers, wait beneath pale-blue directories, answer questions at polished counters and trust that the state is resolving paperwork rather than deciding who they are allowed to be.
The Administrative Core
Directorate Spire
Seat of the Civic Directorate and the symbolic center of San Aurelan government. National addresses, emergency councils, senior policy deliberations and major state decisions are conducted within its white-gold chambers.
Ministry of Human Continuity
Responsible for ancestry verification, citizenship status, marriage approval, inheritance, school eligibility and human-status appeals. Locals know the building by another name: the White Letter House.
Continuity Courts
Special courts hearing ancestry disputes, hybrid exposure cases, biological classifications and custodial claims. Proceedings are elegant, quiet and capable of changing a citizen's legal status before they leave the building.
Office of Custodial Assets
Oversees demi-human ownership licenses, imports, transfers, estate registrations and compliance inspections. Its clerks process human lives through the language of custody, welfare and administrative responsibility.
A Government That Rarely Raises Its Voice
A notice from the Ministry can ruin a life before trial.
It looks like a clean administrative office. It functions like the legal throat of San Aurelan ownership.
Seven-Star Forum // Diplomatic Arrival Statecraft // Diplomacy // Public Legitimacy
Statecraft Under Seven Stars
The Civic Crown does not only govern San Aurelo. It performs San Aurelo for the rest of Vistall.
National addresses, policy presentations, civic ceremonies, press appearances and diplomatic arrivals are staged within the Civic Crown's most impressive public architecture. Here, San Aurelo presents itself not merely as another realm, but as the rational center around which continental order should naturally organize itself.
The presentation is deliberate. Gold stars represent continuity and authority. White stone suggests permanence. Glass suggests transparency. Pale-blue holographic systems suggest scientific competence. Security remains visible enough to reassure citizens and discreet enough not to disturb the illusion that access is uncomplicated.
The Seven-Star Forum
The Seven-Star Forum is San Aurelo's principal ceremonial diplomatic hall in Aurelo Prime. Foreign envoys arrive beneath representations of the Seven Realms while San Aurelan officials frame negotiations through the language of stability, responsibility and continental order.
Human-aligned delegations generally experience the Forum as luxurious, efficient and intensely formal. Relations with demi-human powers expose the limits of that civility. Thornwyck, Veyrhalden and other demi-human representatives may enter under diplomatic exemptions that allow San Aurelo to conduct negotiations without acknowledging that the same visitor would possess no ordinary civic standing beyond those protections.
The contradiction is rarely discussed aloud. San Aurelo simply calls the additional scans, escorts, access limitations and movement rules security procedures. Foreign delegates are expected to understand the distinction between being recognized for diplomacy and being recognized as a person under ordinary Aurelean law.
The Face Across the Table
San Aurelan Delegate
Long black hair, red eyes and a single long earring make the delegate readily recognizable at international summits and formal receptions. His black, ivory and gold presentation reflects Aurelo Prime's preferred diplomatic image: immaculate, composed and difficult to read.
Within Civic Crown imagery, he should appear primarily at the Seven-Star Forum, foreign receptions, summit preparations and other scenes involving external statecraft rather than ordinary domestic administration.
The Forum therefore reveals something essential about the Civic Crown. San Aurelo's authority is not expressed only through laws and enforcement. It is expressed through the ability to make other governments enter its halls, follow its procedures, stand beneath its symbols and argue their own humanity using language San Aurelo believes it owns.
San Aurelo does not merely want a seat at the table. It prefers to own the room in which the table stands.
Clearline // Residential Prestige District Aurelo Prime // Glass Family District
Clearline District
Private towers, rooftop gardens and the carefully managed domestic world of San Aurelo's elite.
Clearline is Aurelo Prime's wealthiest residential district, home to old Glass Families, senior judges, corporate executives, Directorate households and inherited fortunes whose names appear across the political and financial history of San Aurelo.
Its skyline is softer than the Civic Crown's monumental government core. Residential towers step into planted terraces, rooftop pools, private gardens, glass bridges and elevated salons. Streets are quiet. Transit is discreet. Public landscaping is immaculate. The city's harder infrastructure disappears behind polished entrances and carefully maintained greenery.
Clearline wealth is designed around privacy. Many residences function less like apartments than vertical estates, occupying multiple floors with separate family, guest and service circulation systems. Private elevators connect residences directly to secure garages, skybridges, club floors and restricted household facilities.
A District Built Around Privacy
Clearline residents rarely need to encounter the public city on ordinary terms. Groceries, medical services, private tutors, domestic management, security, entertainment and dining can all be brought into an estate. Many towers include club levels, private exercise rooms, enclosed gardens and household service networks unavailable to ordinary residents elsewhere in Prime.
Demi-humans are present throughout this infrastructure, but never as an uncontrolled public population. They appear beside families, behind reception desks, within private gardens, at household entrances or moving through service routes designed specifically to keep domestic labor separate from prestigious residential circulation.
Every door opens beautifully. Not every door opens outward.
Private Estate // Evening Household Routine Domestic Life // Custodial Culture
Behind the Private Door
Clearline's most comfortable households reveal why comfort and freedom cannot be treated as synonyms.
The private estates of Clearline are where San Aurelo's custodial philosophy becomes most intimate. A household may sincerely consider a demi-human beloved, trusted, educated, beautifully dressed and indispensable while maintaining legal ownership over every important decision in that person's life.
This is not necessarily a world of visible chains and constant punishment. Many Clearline households pride themselves on being exemplary custodians. They provide private medicine, tailored clothing, recreation, comfortable rooms, education and expensive accommodations for species-specific needs.
None of those provisions create legal independence.
The Vertical Household
Private Residential Floors
Living suites, salons, private dining rooms, children's spaces, terraces and gardens are separated from public tower circulation through household biometrics.
Separate Circulation
Service elevators, delivery corridors and staff entrances allow domestic workers and registered household companions to move through the residence without using prestigious guest routes.
Integrated Control
Smart-home systems can manage security permissions, room access, transportation, medical appointments and household schedules from a single private interface.
Luxury Accommodation
Wealthy households may provide beautifully furnished companion rooms, private wardrobes, medical equipment and species-specific accommodations that exceed what many free citizens elsewhere could afford.
Well Cared For Is Not Free
A Companion May Receive
- Excellent food
- Beautiful clothing
- Private medical care
- Education
- Personal hobbies
- Travel with the household
- Gifts and discretionary comforts
- Genuine familial affection
A Companion Still Cannot Independently
- Choose legal residence
- Leave the household freely
- Enter paid employment
- Control personal finances
- Refuse custody transfer
- Reject compulsory treatment
- Choose a legal spouse freely
- Terminate custodianship
Clearline society frequently treats good custodianship as proof that the institution itself is humane. A companion who eats well, smiles in family photographs and appears emotionally close to the household may be cited as evidence that criticism of San Aurelan ownership is exaggerated.
The argument deliberately confuses affection with authority. A household can love someone deeply while still retaining the legal power to determine whether that person may leave.
Kindness can exist inside ownership. That does not transform ownership into freedom.
Halo Gardens // Private Reception Private Society // Prestige Culture
Halo Gardens
Clearline's rooftop social world, where wealth, politics and household status become part of the same conversation.
Halo Gardens is a network of elevated garden venues woven through several of Clearline's most prestigious residential towers. White terraces, reflecting pools, sculpted trees, enclosed conservatories and skyline promenades create one of Aurelo Prime's favorite settings for private social events.
Glass Families use the Gardens for engagement celebrations, political receptions, charity dinners, private concerts, corporate networking and carefully curated gatherings where the distinction between family reputation and political influence becomes difficult to locate.
Prestige in Public View
Halo Gardens is one of the few spaces where elite household companions may be deliberately visible in significant numbers. Their presence is not treated as a contradiction of San Aurelan purity. Within elite culture, ownership itself has been reframed as evidence of stewardship, refinement and household standing.
How Ownership Sounds at a Garden Party
Polite Clearline society rarely discusses another household's companion in explicitly commercial terms. The language is subtler. Guests compliment presentation, temperament, lineage, training, clothing and how naturally a companion appears to fit within the household.
Attendants circulate with drinks. Controlled performers provide music. Security companions stand beside private entrances. A rare or visually striking demi-human may accompany a family as openly as jewelry, tailoring or a prestigious surname.
None of this needs to appear violent. The Gardens are beautiful precisely because Clearline's social order has learned to make possession look indistinguishable from belonging.
Nothing crude happens in public. That is the horror.
Helix Quarter // Medical & Biotech District Aurelo Prime // Medicine & Biotechnology
Helix Quarter
Where some of Vistall's finest medicine shares infrastructure with the science of classification.
Helix Quarter is Aurelo Prime's principal medical and biotechnology district, a dense network of research hospitals, specialist clinics, university facilities, genetics laboratories, private medical campuses and corporate research towers connected by landscaped walkways, skybridges and the Silver Line.
For recognized human citizens, Helix is one of the strongest arguments for San Aurelan modernity. Its hospitals treat rare diseases, its surgeons work with advanced imaging and regenerative systems, and its researchers push hereditary medicine far beyond the capabilities of many neighboring realms.
The reputation is not fabricated. Helix saves lives every day. That makes its darker functions harder to isolate from the legitimate institutions surrounding them.
A City Built to Heal
Patients move between specialist towers beneath covered walkways. Medical students cross landscaped plazas between lectures and clinical rotations. Research couriers move tissue samples through secured logistics corridors. Recovery gardens, private rehabilitation centers and high-end outpatient clinics soften the district's dense institutional footprint.
Helix branding emphasizes discovery, longevity, compassion and human advancement. Even its restricted facilities generally share the same materials as its public hospitals: white stone, glass partitions, clean teal interfaces and carefully integrated security.
Healing and Classification
San Aurelo's medical sophistication and its classification state grew together. The same technologies capable of identifying hereditary disease can reveal hidden ancestry. The same morphology research that improves treatment for unusual bodies can improve the state's ability to identify, categorize and restrict them.
Helix therefore contains one of the country's deepest contradictions: scientific knowledge is not inherently cruel, but the legal system surrounding that knowledge determines who gets to benefit from it and who becomes measurable material.
The district's medicine is real. So is the machinery built beside it.
Saint Veyr Medical University // Teaching Atrium Clinical Education // Genetic Medicine
Medicine & Measurement
In Helix Quarter, a medical record can become a treatment plan, a family history, or evidence against a legal identity.
Most patients encounter Helix Quarter through ordinary medicine. Genetic counseling, cancer treatment, reproductive medicine, surgery, trauma care, regenerative therapies, hereditary screening and personalized treatment plans are routine parts of the district's clinical landscape.
Yet San Aurelan medicine does not operate outside the country's identity systems. Genetic data, family records and biological anomalies can intersect with Continuity review whenever a patient's body contradicts the classification attached to their civic file.
Clinical Use
- Hereditary disease screening
- Personalized treatment planning
- Regenerative medicine
- Fertility assessment
- Advanced medical imaging
- Rare-disease diagnosis
Classification Use
- Ancestry discrepancy detection
- Hybrid-marker identification
- Morphology classification
- Shift-linked genetic analysis
- Lineage verification
- Mythic-marker alerts
In Helix, medicine and surveillance can begin with the same blood sample.
Saint Veyr Medical University
Saint Veyr Medical University is one of San Aurelo's most prestigious medical institutions, training physicians, geneticists, researchers and clinical specialists from across the human bloc. Its teaching hospitals and laboratories are internationally respected for genetic medicine, hereditary disease research and shift-stress physiology.
Medical Training
Students move between lecture halls, simulation centers, research laboratories and clinical wards within a tightly integrated teaching complex.
Genetic Medicine
University teams study inherited disease, regenerative treatment, morphology, sensory adaptation and the physiological effects of shifting.
Corporate Grants
Major biotechnology companies fund laboratories, faculty chairs and specialist programs, creating dense relationships between academic research and commercial classification systems.
Sealed Exemptions
Some demi-human research operates under restricted ethics exemptions inaccessible to ordinary students, patients and public oversight.
Students Are Beginning to Ask Questions
Saint Veyr has become one of the institutions most affected by growing generational dissent. Students with access to research databases, clinical rotations and faculty networks are unusually well positioned to recognize contradictions between public ethics language and sealed research practices.
Some have begun leaking documents. Others protest openly. Most remain inside the institution, caught between genuine belief in medicine and mounting suspicion about what their profession has been asked not to notice.
The most dangerous student is sometimes the one who reads the footnotes.
Echelon Nine // Restricted Research Wing Restricted Medicine // Classified Research
Echelon Nine
A respected research hospital whose most important work does not appear in its public directory.
Echelon Nine Research Hospital is one of Helix Quarter's most restricted medical complexes. Publicly, it is associated with rare hereditary disease, advanced genetic medicine and difficult biological cases requiring exceptional security or patient confidentiality.
Those functions are real. They are also incomplete.
Beyond the Public Directory
Restricted wings handle classified genetic studies, mythic-marker alerts, biological-anomaly cases, morphology research and high-value research subjects whose records are isolated from ordinary hospital systems.
The Work Behind the Glass
Consent Depends on Classification
San Aurelan research ethics contains a foundational inequality. Demi-humans do not possess the same civic personhood as recognized humans and therefore do not automatically receive equivalent consent protections under every research classification.
A researcher may therefore operate inside a clean hospital, follow institutional procedure, document every intervention, pass internal ethics review and still participate in research the subject has no meaningful legal power to refuse.
This does not require every scientist at Echelon Nine to be personally cruel. Some believe the work protects society. Some pursue prestige or funding. Some compartmentalize restricted cases away from their ordinary clinical practice. Some object quietly. A small number leak what they find.
The room can be clean, the treatment precise and the records immaculate. The person on the table can still be unable to say no.
Whitegate // Metropolitan Transit Ring Aurelo Prime // Transit & Arrival District
Whitegate Transit Ring
The city moves quickly because every person, route and permission is already expected to have a place.
Whitegate is Aurelo Prime's great movement district, where metropolitan rail, regional transit, private transport, diplomatic routes, cargo logistics and border-linked arrival systems converge around the capital's largest station complex.
The district rarely feels like a border checkpoint. Its platforms, plazas, hotels, restaurants, transfer halls and skybridges are designed around speed and convenience. Most recognized human citizens move through Whitegate without consciously registering how many times the city verifies them along the way.
A wrist-comm confirms a fare. A gate reads a face. A platform entrance validates civic status. A private lift recognizes an executive credential. When every system agrees with the person using it, surveillance feels almost indistinguishable from good service.
A District Built Around Motion
The Silver Line
High-speed urban rail carries commuters between Whitegate, Civic Crown, Clearline, Helix, the Lattice and other major Prime districts.
Regional Connections
Ground-level and lower-platform rail networks connect Aurelo Prime to other San Aurelan settlements, industrial routes and national transport corridors.
Elite Transfers
Corporate travelers, Glass Families and senior officials use private lounges, expedited checkpoints and restricted boarding platforms.
Border Processing
Foreign travelers, diplomatic visitors and arrivals requiring identity review pass through Whitegate's biometric verification halls before entering the capital.
The system feels invisible when every gate expects to let someone through.
Central Station // Main Concourse National Transit Hub // Aurelo Prime
Central Station
One building carries commuters, diplomats, cargo, wealth and people whose journeys are not legally their own.
Aurelo Prime Central Station is the largest transit hub in San Aurelo. Skyrails, ground rails, regional routes, diplomatic gates, executive platforms, freight systems and secured transfer infrastructure all converge beneath its glass concourses.
For ordinary travelers, Central is bright, efficient and almost aggressively convenient. Departure boards hang above restaurants and shops. Hotels connect directly to the station. Silver Line platforms move passengers into the city within minutes. Business travelers disappear into executive lounges while families wait beneath enormous civic route displays.
One Station, Several Systems
These systems can occupy the same building without intersecting socially. A human commuter can purchase lunch, board the Silver Line and leave Central without ever seeing the corridors through which a corporate-held demi-human, research subject or estate transfer entered the city.
This separation is deliberate. San Aurelo's transportation infrastructure does not merely move people efficiently. It determines what kind of traveler someone is allowed to be.
Do not wake at Central.
Among escape networks, the phrase is practical rather than poetic. Someone regaining awareness during a controlled transfer at Central is already inside one of the most heavily scanned, interconnected and difficult-to-disappear-from environments in San Aurelo.
Whitegate Arrival Hall // Secondary Review Entry Processing // Biological Classification
Whitegate Arrival Hall
Entry into Aurelo Prime is not decided only by documents. The city asks the body whether the documents are telling the truth.
Whitegate Arrival Hall is the primary biometric entry point for travelers entering Aurelo Prime. Its white floors, glass booths, soft blue displays and carefully trained officials make processing resemble a premium international terminal rather than one of the most consequential classification systems in Vistall.
Most recognized humans barely stop walking. Their identity, civic record and biological classification agree, the gate turns green, and the city welcomes them forward.
Demi-humans face a different system. Their traits, ancestry and legal permissions must correspond to a recognized custodial, institutional, diplomatic or other approved status. A demi-human appearing at a gate with documentation that identifies them as an ordinary human citizen creates something San Aurelo considers far more serious than a clerical error.
Seven Layers of Verification
Human Record. Demi-Human Body.
Recognized Human
Civic record identifies the traveler as human. Biological screening agrees. The individual retains ordinary citizen or visitor status and the gate clears.
Status Mismatch
Civic documentation identifies the traveler as human, but biological screening detects demi-human traits or ancestry incompatible with that legal classification. Entry stops immediately and the individual is referred for secondary review.
Status Mismatch
This is not merely an immigration problem. In San Aurelo, human civic status determines access to citizenship, property, education, marriage, inheritance, employment and legal personhood. A confirmed demi-human classification may therefore challenge far more than the travel document currently being scanned.
The officials do not need to shout. The surrounding passengers do not need to understand what happened. The gate simply remains closed, the screen changes color, and a calm attendant begins asking questions.
Everyone in the neighboring lanes keeps moving.
Status mismatch. Please remain still.
The Lattice // Corporate Tower Belt Aurelo Prime // Finance & Corporate Services
The Lattice
Capital, contracts, surveillance and law connect here before spreading across the rest of Vistall.
The Lattice is Aurelo Prime's dense corporate tower belt, a district of reflective high-rises, enclosed skybridges, executive plazas, legal houses, financial institutions, security firms, insurers and political consultancies connected through one of the city's most concentrated professional networks.
Unlike Civic Crown, authority here rarely speaks in the language of law. It speaks in contracts, underwriting, liability, risk, infrastructure and service agreements. The Lattice takes systems created elsewhere in San Aurelo and turns them into products that can be bought, financed, insured and exported.
Civic Crown supplies policy. Helix supplies biological science. Whitegate moves people and goods. Clearline supplies elite clients and private capital. The Lattice connects the pieces and invoices someone for the result.
The Workday Behind the System
Most people working in the Lattice do not spend their days thinking about ideological purity. They draft contracts, analyze claims, review compliance reports, design access systems, negotiate infrastructure deals, model liability and prepare presentations for clients.
Office cafés fill during morning commutes. Associates cross enclosed bridges between firms. Executives meet foreign clients in tower restaurants. Consultants take the Silver Line to Civic Crown. Security engineers visit Helix facilities. Insurance representatives travel to Clearline estates.
The district's power comes from this normality. Systems of control survive because thousands of professional tasks can be completed without any single employee needing to see the whole machine.
San Aurelo does not only enforce its systems. It sells them.
Corporate Operations // Regional Contract Floor Corporate Services // Regional Export
Control as a Service
The Lattice turns San Aurelan ideology into products other governments and corporations can purchase.
San Aurelo's domestic systems became profitable long before the rest of Vistall fully understood what they were buying. Access control, biometric verification, financial underwriting, population modeling, political messaging and private security are all exportable services.
The firms of the Lattice specialize in making those systems modular. A foreign client does not need to adopt San Aurelan ideology wholesale. It can simply purchase a better identity scanner, a more accurate surveillance network, a more efficient containment policy or a legal framework designed by people who have already tested it at home.
The Industries of Control
Identity Technology
Biometric locks, facial and gait recognition, scent filters, drone monitoring, wrist-comm analytics and unauthorized-shift detection are developed, tested and sold as security products.
Capital & Lending
Banks and investment firms finance research facilities, custodial infrastructure, elite estates, private security expansion and other systems requiring large-scale capital.
Ownership Risk
Specialist insurers evaluate medical condition, lineage, escape risk, transfer liability, estate security and other factors associated with registered demi-human assets.
Custodial Law
Legal houses produce custody agreements, estate compliance structures, transfer contracts, liability protections and international recovery claims.
Policy Consulting
Consultants export public-safety messaging, population policy, continuity-style legislation and communication strategies designed to make exclusion sound administrative rather than ideological.
Private Protection
Security firms provide estate protection, high-value transport, tracking systems, restricted-facility coverage and recovery support for corporate and private clients.
Everything Connects Here
A Person Becomes a Profile
Once entered into a corporate system, a demi-human can be represented through lineage, medical stability, behavioral certification, escape probability, transfer liability and coverage status. The individual does not disappear. The model simply converts their life into variables a professional can act upon without ever meeting them.
A bank may refuse a demi-human a personal account while insuring the same person as property.
It teaches cruelty how to sound reasonable.
Ownership Insurance // Coverage Review Finance // Insurance // Legal Abstraction
The Price of a Person
Clearline treats ownership as household belonging. The Lattice treats it as exposure that can be calculated.
Ownership insurance is one of the clearest examples of how San Aurelan professional systems transform personhood into financial language. Registered demi-humans can be evaluated as insured assets whose health, lineage, behavior, security requirements and transfer conditions affect the financial exposure of the household or institution holding them.
The process does not need to resemble a sale. Reviews take place in conference rooms. Attorneys discuss compliance. Underwriters evaluate risk. Clients sign coverage documents. The demi-human being discussed may stand only a few feet away while professionals calmly determine what protections apply to the owner's financial interest in them.
Translating a Life Into Risk
Nobody Needs to Feel Cruel
The Lattice is full of people who may never consider themselves participants in exploitation. A risk analyst adjusts actuarial models. A lawyer corrects transfer language. A security consultant recommends stronger access controls. A claims specialist reviews medical documentation.
Each task can be performed competently, politely and according to policy. The system survives precisely because moral responsibility is divided across enough professional roles that no single desk appears to contain the whole act.
Financial Personhood
Within the insurance file, the demi-human remains medically alive, emotionally complex and biologically human-adjacent. None of that prevents the contract from treating them as an object of value whose loss, injury, escape or transfer creates financial consequences for somebody else.
The district does not need to hate a person in order to put a price on them.
Old Prime // Historic Civic District Aurelo Prime // Historic District
Old Prime
The oldest surviving part of the capital, where stone remembers what glass was built to replace.
Old Prime predates the white-glass city now associated with modern San Aurelo. Its streets are narrower, its buildings heavier, and its civic spaces shaped by generations of construction rather than a single planned vision.
Stone apartments, municipal halls, enclosed courtyards, old plazas, cafés, shops and residential balconies sit beneath newer Silver Line infrastructure and the distant towers of contemporary Aurelo Prime. Modern identity panels have been mounted beside carved doors. Civic Eye cameras hang from lamp posts designed decades before the surveillance network existed.
The district is neither abandoned nor decayed. Many Prime residents actively prefer its older streets, smaller businesses and human-scale architecture. Students rent rooms above cafés. Long-established families occupy apartments held for generations. Tourists visit restored civic sites and preserved plazas.
The Future Arrived Anyway
Old Prime still participates fully in modern city life. Holo directories float beside stone staircases. Transit gates occupy former civic arcades. Delivery drones pass beneath carved balconies. Newer businesses preserve old façades because historic architecture has become desirable in its own right.
But retrofitting has limits. A modern tower begins with one authoritative floor plan. Old Prime buildings may have been expanded, divided, sealed, reopened and connected to neighboring structures across decades of renovation.
The city knows these buildings. It simply does not always know them perfectly.
The future arrived here, but it could not rebuild every wall.
Civic Archive Plaza // Revised Historical Site Historical Continuity // Civic Memory
Before the Glass
San Aurelo preserves history carefully, especially after deciding which version deserves preservation.
Old Prime contains the physical remains of civic eras that predate modern Continuity doctrine, the Civic Eye and much of the biological classification infrastructure now treated as inseparable from San Aurelan identity.
That does not mean the district functions as an uncontrolled historical archive. Monuments, inscriptions, building plaques and public interpretations are routinely curated to align older civic spaces with the national story taught in the present.
A Past Brought Into Compliance
Retired Markers
Older plaques, memorials and inscriptions may be removed from public view when their language conflicts with current civic interpretation.
Updated Interpretation
Modern plaques and holo-guides can replace earlier wording while preserving the physical monument as evidence of responsible historical stewardship.
Restricted Records
Materials considered sensitive, misleading or biologically relevant may be transferred into controlled archives rather than destroyed outright.
Built Over
New civic façades, service systems and public installations frequently cover older architectural layers without removing them completely.
What Survives Underneath
Physical Record
Stonework, sealed inscriptions, forgotten foundations, disused rooms and older municipal corridors preserve evidence of how the city once described itself.
Official Record
Civic displays, restoration plaques, approved archives and educational material determine which parts of that physical history are presented as meaningful.
The tension is not always dramatic. A citizen can walk past the same monument for twenty years without wondering why one section of stone is newer than the rest. A school tour can learn a technically accurate history while never being shown the records excluded from the lesson.
Old Prime becomes dangerous only when somebody notices that the building and the explanation attached to it do not quite agree.
San Aurelo rarely needs to destroy the past. It can simply install a cleaner version in front of it.
Cracked Tower Room // Location Withheld Resistance Infrastructure // Glassbreakers
The Cracks Between Systems
Old Prime is heavily watched. It is also one of the few places where the city does not perfectly agree with its own maps.
The Glassbreakers do not control Old Prime, and the district is not an open resistance sanctuary. Civic Eye surveillance remains extensive, police patrols remain active, and residents can disappear into review just as easily here as elsewhere in the capital.
What Old Prime offers is structural uncertainty. Buildings have been divided, connected and renovated so many times that the physical city occasionally contains routes the modern network understands only imperfectly.
Where the Map Becomes Approximate
The Cracked Tower Rooms
The Cracked Tower Rooms are not one building. They are a shifting network of temporary apartments, back rooms and forgotten residential spaces used for short-term shelter, forged identity work, collar-removal recovery and preparation for movement deeper through Old Prime or into the Underways.
Locations change constantly. A room useful this month may be abandoned the next. Furniture is ordinary. Medical supplies are portable. Equipment can be packed quickly. Routes are confirmed shortly before use. The network survives by refusing to become permanent enough for the Civic Eye to understand as a place.
No Fixed Address
The Unregistered Market operates through coded appointments, temporary holo-signals and trusted intermediaries rather than a permanent marketplace. Hidden clinics, forged-document sellers, hybrid families, corrupt officials, escaped demi-humans and abolitionist technicians all use portions of the network.
A contact may meet in a café one week, an unused office the next, and an apartment stairwell after that. The system is intentionally difficult to map because mapping is exactly what San Aurelo does best.
Never meet twice under the same name.
Service Underways // Network Routes Aurelo Prime // Hidden City Infrastructure
The Service Underways
The city above remains immaculate because another city beneath it carries everything residents are not meant to see.
Beneath Aurelo Prime lies an enormous service network of maintenance corridors, utility systems, private transport routes, delivery shafts, waste infrastructure, emergency passages, old rail lines and sealed transfer systems connecting nearly every major district above.
The Underways are not abandoned tunnels or municipal ruins. They are active infrastructure. Technicians maintain water and power systems. Freight vehicles carry supplies between towers. Hospital logistics move through secured corridors. Estate deliveries bypass prestigious lobbies. Municipal crews travel between levels without entering the public city at all.
Demi-humans also move through these systems far more often than they move through Aurelo Prime's public streets. Domestic attendants, institutional workers, medical subjects and registered custodial transfers can travel between destinations without ever joining ordinary passenger traffic.
The Backstage of Perfection
Utilities
Power access, pumping, filtration, communications, waste handling and emergency systems occupy entire levels beneath the public city.
Freight & Delivery
Service rail, cargo elevators and delivery corridors move goods between Central Station, hospitals, corporate towers and private estates.
Staff Movement
Maintenance crews, sanitation workers, domestic staff and other service personnel travel through routes kept separate from prestigious public circulation.
Controlled Transfer
Sealed corridors connect estate, medical, corporate and transit infrastructure for people whose movement is legally attached to an institution or custodian.
Contingency Routes
Emergency passages and evacuation systems allow essential personnel to bypass ordinary streets during infrastructure failures or security events.
Old Rail & Foundations
Older routes near Old Prime survive beneath newer construction, creating a layered system that is more difficult to map perfectly than the modern city above.
Above Prime
Public plazas, private towers, medical campuses, transit concourses and corporate districts remain clean, beautiful and carefully separated from heavy service traffic.
Below Prime
The labor, deliveries, waste, utilities and controlled movement required to sustain that appearance continue through an infrastructure network most residents never enter.
The city's public purity depends on its hidden underworld.
Lower Service Exchange // Assignment Hall Movement // Assignment // Transfer
The Lower Service Exchange
Whitegate asks where a traveler wants to go. The Lower Exchange asks where someone has been assigned.
The Lower Service Exchange is one of Aurelo Prime's principal concealed coordination points, routing workers, institutional personnel, domestic service and custodial movement through the Underways without requiring those populations to enter ordinary public circulation.
It resembles a transit terminal stripped of leisure. There are route boards, biometric readers, assignment counters, service elevators and processing lanes. Human administrators review work orders and permissions while maintenance crews, institutional staff and registered demi-humans wait beneath destination codes.
Movement is orderly rather than theatrical. A household companion can stand beside luggage. A medical transfer can wait with clinical paperwork. A service worker can carry tools and lunch. The controlling feature is not how someone looks while waiting. It is whether the route belongs to them.
Five Kinds of Movement
Administrative Movement
Identity Scan
Personnel and custodial records are matched to the individual entering the Exchange.
Route Assignment
Work orders, institutional permissions or custodial records determine the correct destination.
Medical Check
Certain transfers require health, treatment or species-accommodation documentation before movement.
Route Clearance
The assigned corridor, elevator or vehicle becomes accessible once all required permissions agree.
Out of sight does not mean outside the system.
Maintenance Route U-27 // Unauthorized Handoff Glassbreaker Activity // Unauthorized Movement
Between the Cameras
The Underways are not unwatched. They are simply too large, too busy and too necessary to become perfectly still.
The Civic Eye extends underground. Service gates scan credentials. Corridors contain cameras. Maintenance vehicles are logged. Transfer routes require authorization. The Underways are not a blind spot beneath the capital.
What they contain instead is traffic.
Maintenance windows change. Utility systems go offline. Contractors rotate. Freight crosses between levels. Old tunnels meet new corridors. Thousands of legitimate movements create enough noise that a carefully prepared unauthorized movement can sometimes disappear inside the expected one.
Resistance Uses the System Against Itself
Legitimate Credentials
Sympathetic officials, contractors or Soft Hands can create a real opening into a service route rather than forcing entry through a monitored public door.
Routine Movement
An unauthorized traveler is easier to hide when dressed, routed and timed to resemble expected maintenance, institutional or service traffic.
Tracker Suppression
Glassbreaker technicians interfere with custodial trackers, wrist-comm reporting and Civic Eye correlation long enough to break the expected movement chain.
Legacy Infrastructure
Old Prime utility links, temporary closures and inherited service passages create alternate paths through sections of the network.
From Transfer to Escape
The most important moment in an extraction is not necessarily the final border crossing. It is the point where institutional movement ends and self-directed movement begins. A person who entered the Underways because someone else assigned their route leaves the handoff with people working to make the next destination their own.
How Someone Disappears
Access Opens
A legitimate credential, estate route or institutional permission places the target inside service infrastructure.
Expected Route Breaks
Movement separates from the destination recorded by the custodial or institutional system.
Glassbreaker Handoff
Couriers receive the escapee within the Underways and take responsibility for the next stage.
Signals Go Quiet
Trackers, wrist-comm reporting and Civic Eye correlations are suppressed, altered or disconnected.
Safe Flat
The escapee reaches temporary shelter, often through Old Prime, where treatment, collar removal and identity work can begin.
Outbound Route
Once immediate tracking is broken, the network prepares movement toward sanctuary or another longer-term destination.
San Aurelo built a society where identity is infrastructure. Resistance learned to attack the infrastructure.
Mirror Ward // Family Residential District Aurelo Prime // Schools, Clinics & Family Housing
Mirror Ward
The respectable middle of Aurelo Prime, built around stable homes, good schools and confidence that the system works.
Mirror Ward is one of Aurelo Prime's major middle-class residential districts, known for strong neighborhood schools, community clinics, family apartments, landscaped plazas and reliable transit into the professional districts of the capital.
Its residents are teachers, engineers, medical workers, administrators, technicians, accountants, designers, clerks and other professionals whose labor keeps modern San Aurelo functioning. Their lives are comfortable without approaching Clearline wealth.
Children walk to school beneath mature trees. Families eat at neighborhood cafés. Clinics sit beside pharmacies and small groceries. Silver Line stations connect parents to Civic Crown, Helix and the Lattice. Public cameras and patrol drones are generally interpreted as evidence that the neighborhood is safe.
The Life the System Promises
Family Housing
Mid-rise apartments and townhome-style residences provide secure, comfortable housing close to schools, parks and neighborhood services.
Education
Well-funded schools, athletics, arts programs and advanced classroom technology make the Ward especially desirable to families with children.
Community Clinics
Local clinics provide ordinary medical care, screenings, family health services and referrals into the larger Helix medical network.
Daily Life
Cafés, parks, groceries, after-school programs and neighborhood plazas create a strong sense of local stability and social familiarity.
Respectability Is a Form of Security
Many Mirror Ward residents genuinely believe San Aurelo protects people like them. They have stable jobs, clean records, respectable families and children enrolled in good schools. The systems monitoring their lives usually confirm what they already believe themselves to be.
That confidence creates the district's central vulnerability. In Mirror Ward, a household rarely imagines civic scrutiny as dangerous until the scrutiny stops confirming them.
The system feels protective when it has never asked the family to prove it belongs.
Mirror Ward Academy // Heritage Screening Week Education // Heritage // Civic Formation
Children of the Clear Line
Mirror Ward schools teach mathematics, medicine, art and civic belonging. They also teach children what the state considers worth noticing.
Education in Mirror Ward is genuinely strong. Schools are clean, technologically advanced and heavily resourced. Students participate in athletics, music, science programs, clubs and advanced coursework while families compete for placement in the most desirable academies.
Those schools also form part of San Aurelo's identity infrastructure. Attendance systems, student health records, ancestry-linked access and periodic screenings allow educational institutions to compare what a child's civic file says against what medical and biological evidence appears to show.
Health + Heritage Screening
For most students, screening week is ordinary. Parents sign forms. Students visit the clinic. Records are updated. The process is presented alongside routine health, attendance and school safety systems rather than as a separate security procedure.
What Children Learn to Notice
Surveillance Becomes a Habit
Children do not need to think of themselves as informants. They are taught to tell adults when something appears medically unusual, unsafe or inconsistent. A classmate behaving strangely can become a concern shared with a teacher, counselor, nurse or parent.
The vocabulary is protective. The consequence is that students learn to examine one another for signs that somebody may not belong to the category written on their school record.
Children learn surveillance before empathy.
Continuity Audit // Household Review Pending Ministry of Human Continuity // Household Review
The White Letter
One questionable result can turn an ordinary family into a biological question the state intends to answer.
A Continuity Audit does not require a dramatic arrest or visible crime. It can begin with a school screening, medical anomaly, inheritance dispute, marriage application, facial-recognition irregularity, anonymous report or any other inconsistency serious enough to make the Ministry question a person's recorded ancestry.
In Mirror Ward, the most frightening version often begins with a child.
Household Review Required
A school ancestry anomaly does not remain confined to the student's file. Because biological inheritance connects relatives, investigators can expand review outward through parents, siblings, grandparents and extended family records.
One Flagged Child
Parental Record Review
Birth, ancestry, medical and citizenship files belonging to both parents may be reopened.
Sibling Verification
Other children in the household can be screened for related markers or inconsistencies.
Extended Family Check
Grandparents, cousins and other biological connections may enter review when investigators attempt to identify where an anomaly originated.
Medical History Access
Existing clinical records can be compared against the household's declared ancestry.
Education File Audit
School records, health screenings and prior incidents may be reviewed for missed indicators.
Employment Cross-Check
Sensitive professional access, benefits and qualifications can be reevaluated if they depend on recognized human status.
Residence Compliance
Housing records and civic eligibility may enter review while the household's classification remains unresolved.
Suspicion Travels Faster Than Evidence
Before the Audit
The family may be known as reliable neighbors, good parents, respected professionals and ordinary members of the school community.
After the Notice
Invitations become awkward. Parents discourage visits. Employers grow cautious. Neighbors remember unusual details. Social distance begins before the state reaches a conclusion.
This is why Continuity Audits are especially destructive in Mirror Ward. Respectability is one of the neighborhood's primary forms of social protection, and an audit converts certainty into doubt.
A household does not need to be declared demi-human to begin losing the life it built. It only needs other people to become uncertain about whether the declaration might come.
Families Living Between Categories
Human-passing hybrids expose the weakness at the center of San Aurelo's classification ideology. Some possess records identifying them as fully human. Others descend from families who concealed ancestry generations earlier. Many have spent their entire lives participating in ordinary civic society while avoiding the specific medical, educational or bureaucratic events most likely to expose them.
They are not automatically revolutionaries. Some support reform. Some aid resistance. Some want to escape. Some want nothing more political than for their child to attend school, come home, and never receive a white letter.
The family looked perfectly ordinary until the system decided to look closer.
The Quiet Mile // Entertainment & Private Society Aurelo Prime // Dining, Arts & Private Society
The Quiet Mile
Aurelo Prime after dark, where leisure, prestige and private access blur comfortably together.
The Quiet Mile is Aurelo Prime's elite entertainment district, a polished nighttime corridor of luxury restaurants, private clubs, theaters, rooftop venues, executive hotels, salons and invitation-only rooms serving the capital's political, financial and social elite.
Its public streets are lively rather than secretive. Couples arrive for dinner. Corporate teams celebrate promotions. Theater crowds gather beneath gold-lit marquees. Chauffeured vehicles move between valet entrances while the Silver Line carries guests from Clearline, Civic Crown and the Lattice.
The district's exclusivity begins behind the public façades. Member lounges, private dining rooms, sealed event floors and custodial entertainment spaces allow wealthier guests to access a second version of the Mile that ordinary visitors may never see.
A City Enjoying Itself
Restaurants & Rooftops
High-end restaurants, private tasting rooms and skyline terraces draw affluent diners from across Prime.
Theater & Performance
Formal theaters, music venues and curated performance spaces give the Mile a genuine cultural life beyond its clubs.
Member Clubs
Private institutions provide dining, entertainment and social access to judges, officials, executives and inherited wealth.
Invitation-Only Rooms
Sealed salons and private event suites offer levels of discretion unavailable in ordinary entertainment venues.
Customer or Part of the Experience
Demi-humans are more visible here than in many Aurelo Prime public districts, but visibility does not imply equal participation. They may appear as attendants, performers, personal companions, security or carefully presented elements of elite hospitality.
The distinction can be invisible at first glance. Two beautifully dressed people may sit at the same table while possessing radically different legal relationships to the room around them.
Nothing illegal is visible. Everything immoral has paperwork.
The Blue Quiet // Members Only Private Club // Influence & Discretion
The Blue Quiet
Soft music, sealed rooms, expensive conversation, and the strange tendency for tonight's opinions to become next month's policy.
The Blue Quiet is one of Aurelo Prime's most prestigious private clubs, serving politicians, judges, Glass Family heirs, corporate leaders, senior attorneys and other guests whose professional influence extends far beyond the nightlife district.
It is still genuinely a social institution. Members dine, drink, listen to music, entertain clients, introduce friends, celebrate victories and complain about work. The atmosphere is intentionally relaxed, discreet and insulated from the formality of Civic Crown or the Lattice.
Conversation Without an Official Record
Private booths, sealed rooms and strict restrictions on recording allow powerful people to speak with considerably less restraint than they would inside government offices, courtrooms or corporate boardrooms.
How Dinner Becomes Policy
Cultivated Presence
Heritage companions are carefully presented demi-humans attached to elite households or institutions. They may be educated, socially skilled, multilingual, musically trained or otherwise selected for qualities considered desirable within upper-class social environments.
A companion may dine beside a custodian, participate in conversation, attend performances and receive polished courtesy from everyone present. None of those privileges automatically create independent legal status.
The Member
Chooses whether to enter, where to sit, whom to meet, when to leave and whether to return.
The Heritage Companion
May receive every visible courtesy in the room while remaining present through someone else's custodial authority.
Power does not always meet in government buildings.
Heritage Placement // Private Consultation Heritage Services // Private Placement
Cultivated Possession
San Aurelo does not need a public auction when ownership can be conducted through private consultation.
Heritage companion lounges and private viewing rooms occupy one of the Quiet Mile's most discreet commercial niches. They serve elite households seeking companions whose education, lineage, temperament, appearance or specialized skills suit a particular social environment.
The language is deliberately refined. Clients do not need to browse a public market or negotiate across an auction floor. They meet with placement consultants, custodial representatives, legal specialists and insurers inside private rooms where every relevant detail has already been organized into a professional file.
The Heritage Companion Profile
A placement profile transforms a living person into a series of qualities that can be evaluated for compatibility with an estate, public role, social calendar or executive household.
Ownership Without the Crudeness
The demi-human may be physically present during part of the consultation, dressed beautifully and introduced with professional courtesy. Clients can ask about education, habits, medical needs, social experience and suitability for specific environments.
The setting encourages everyone involved to think in terms of compatibility and proper care rather than sale and purchase. That vocabulary does not alter the legal fact underneath it.
This is how the Quiet Mile preserves San Aurelo's preferred self-image. There is no shouting, no crude public spectacle and no need to pretend the person being discussed lacks intelligence, personality or culture.
The system can acknowledge all of those things and still conclude that someone else should hold the paperwork.
Refinement changes the presentation. It does not change who gets to choose.

Aurelo Prime // 07:42 Daily Life // Morning Routine
A Morning in Prime
For millions of recognized human citizens, Aurelo Prime begins with coffee, school bags, transit updates and a city that already knows who they are.
Morning in Aurelo Prime is fast without feeling chaotic. Apartment systems raise lights and display weather before residents leave bed. Wrist-comms collect overnight messages, work schedules, school notices, account alerts and transit updates into a single familiar interface.
Parents walk children toward school. Office workers collect coffee beneath residential towers. Students finish assignments on the Silver Line. Delivery drones move overhead while neighborhood shuttles, bicycles and pedestrian routes feed into the larger transit network.
Identity systems are everywhere, but recognized citizens rarely experience them as obstacles. A pulse reader opens the apartment door. A wrist-comm pays for breakfast. A station gate confirms transit access. An office scanner recognizes an employee before they reach the elevator.
Home Systems Wake
Lights, household schedules, news summaries and school or work notices appear through connected home interfaces.
Neighborhood Morning
Cafés open into residential plazas while parents, students and commuters begin moving toward schools and transit.
Silver Line
Riders pass through automated gates with little interruption when identity, fare and civic permissions already agree.
Workday Begins
Office doors, hospital entrances, universities and government buildings recognize employees through routine biometric access.
Smart Apartments
Connected lighting, climate, security, delivery and household systems make ordinary residential life comfortable and highly automated.
Wrist-Comms
Identity, payments, communication, tickets, access credentials and personal schedules live in one device most residents barely think about.
Silver Line
Clean, frequent urban rail makes crossing the capital routine enough that residents complain loudly when a train is only a few minutes late.
Public Space
Parks, cafés, plazas, schools, clinics and retail streets give Prime a genuinely pleasant daily rhythm outside its major institutions.
Surveillance feels like convenience when the system expects to approve you.
Ordinary Life // Selective Perception Daily Life // Selective Perception
The Things You Stop Seeing
San Aurelo does not hide every contradiction. Some are simply made ordinary enough that citizens stop treating them as contradictions.
A demi-human waiter carries drinks to a table of human professionals. A household companion waits beside a private vehicle. An attendant carries shopping bags while their custodian checks a wrist-comm. A service employee disappears through a door the customers beside them cannot open.
None of these moments need to interrupt the afternoon.
That is one of Aurelo Prime's most important social achievements. The city does not require every recognized human citizen to spend every day consciously defending demi-human ownership. It requires them to accept the resulting hierarchy as part of how restaurants, estates, hospitals, shops, offices and transportation already function.
What the Citizen Sees
A clean café. Fast service. A safe office district. Helpful staff. Reliable deliveries. A well-run city.
What the System Contains
Custodial status, restricted movement, separate infrastructure and people whose labor is visible while their lack of personhood is treated as administrative background.
Most citizens are not staring at the demi-human server and consciously thinking about ownership. They are discussing work, checking messages, flirting, arguing about lunch or trying to get back to the office before a meeting.
The person carrying the tray becomes part of the scenery precisely because everyone has been taught what their presence means.
San Aurelo Survives on What Becomes Ordinary
A society does not need to conceal an injustice once enough people have learned to interpret it as normal infrastructure.
Citizens are trained not only to obey. They are trained not to notice.
Aurelo Prime // Friday Evening Daily Life // Leisure & Community
Friday Night in Prime
The workweek ends, café lights come on, trains fill with friends meeting friends, and Aurelo Prime becomes somebody's favorite city again.
Aurelo Prime does not empty when its offices close. Restaurants fill. Cinema marquees light up. Neighborhood pubs start trivia. Students occupy cafés long past the point they planned to leave. Couples meet beneath Silver Line stations while families pick up dinner on the way home.
Young professionals leave the Lattice for drinks. Medical students escape Helix for anything that does not involve a textbook. Old Prime fills with market traffic, books, music and cheap food. Mirror Ward parents meet friends while children run through community plazas. The Quiet Mile becomes progressively more expensive with every block.
Social Life
Birthdays, office drinks, study groups, dates, family dinners and spontaneous plans give residents ordinary emotional attachment to the city.
Arts & Entertainment
Cinema, theater, live music, markets, clubs, bookstores and public events make Prime culturally active rather than merely administratively important.
Home & Community
Familiar schools, parks, neighbors and routines give families a real sense of belonging that national messaging can build upon.
Their City
For many citizens, Aurelo Prime is not an ideological project. It is where they met friends, raised children, found work and built memories.
There Is Something Real to Lose
Propaganda works best when it attaches itself to genuine comfort. Residents do not defend an abstract political system alone. They defend schools, cafés, careers, neighborhoods, friends and the version of home they believe produced them.
That does not make ordinary human happiness false. The laughter at the table is real. The first date is real. The child asleep on the train home is real. So is the controlled labor serving the restaurant, the ancestry database behind the school, and the service corridor beneath the street.
Aurelo Prime contains all of those realities at once.
Aurelo Prime is not frightening because nobody is happy there. It is frightening because millions of people are.
Aurelo Prime // Civic Pressure Increasing Aurelo Prime // Current Pressure
Hairline Fractures in the Glass
The city has not stopped functioning. It has simply begun spending more effort proving that nothing is wrong.
Aurelo Prime still looks stable. The Silver Line runs. Restaurants remain crowded. Civic Crown hosts delegations. Schools open every morning. Corporate towers continue glowing through the night.
But stability is becoming more labor-intensive.
More security guards stand outside elite residences. More Civic Eye drones remain airborne around universities. More families receive Continuity notices. More government files are restricted. More citizens quietly ask whether the system is discovering threats or manufacturing them.
The City Is Checking Its Locks Twice
Elite Disappearances
Demi-human companions and domestic assets have begun vanishing from prestigious households, suggesting successful extraction networks, internal assistance or both.
Saint Veyr Protests
Students and medical workers are demanding transparency surrounding research ethics, consent and sealed Echelon Nine activity.
Audit Expansion
Continuity Audits are reaching more ordinary households as ancestry anomalies, anonymous reports and institutional screenings trigger wider review.
Leaked Research
Files associated with rare lineage and mythic-marker research have escaped controlled systems and are circulating among students, journalists and resistance networks.
Glassbreaker Activity
Old infrastructure, temporary safe rooms and Underways connections continue supporting increasingly sophisticated extraction and identity-ghosting operations.
Habitat Fire
The Prime Zoological Conservatory remains under review after a major habitat fire officially attributed to mechanical failure.
Thornwyck Pressure
Thornwyck legal authorities continue challenging San Aurelan claims over seized refugees, ancestry classification and custodial status.
Hidden-Hybrid Panic
Families with uncertain ancestry are quietly reviewing records before the next major census brings old bloodlines back under official scrutiny.
None of These Problems Exist Alone
Stability Requires Increased Attention
The public message remains calm. Internally, more institutions are being asked to report unusual activity, biological discrepancies, unauthorized access and possible ideological contamination.
Everything still works. Everyone important has simply started checking the locks twice.
Saint Veyr // Student Demonstration Civic Eye Concern // Ideological Spread
Sympathy Contamination
The state can contain a protest. It has a harder problem when human citizens begin questioning why the protest was necessary.
Saint Veyr Medical University has become one of the most visible centers of internal dissent in Aurelo Prime. Students, residents, researchers and younger medical professionals increasingly challenge sealed ethics exemptions, restricted research and the treatment of demi-human subjects.
Not everyone in these movements is a Glassbreaker.
Some demand transparent research law. Some want stronger consent standards. Some support limited citizenship reform. Some are horrified by leaked testimony without knowing what political answer should follow. Others are actively passing records into resistance networks.
Empathy Becomes a Security Concern
Leaks Become Testimony
Restricted records become much harder to dismiss once students can connect clinical language to named people and personal accounts.
Foreign Media Circulates
Thornwyck legal arguments, refugee testimony and demi-human reporting increasingly reach younger San Aurelan audiences.
Scientific Authority Splits
Researchers disagree publicly over consent, classification and whether current biological models are scientifically defensible.
Language Changes
Students increasingly use words such as person, consent and imprisonment where institutions prefer subject, custody and containment.
Social Networks Bridge Groups
Reformists, abolitionists, researchers, hidden hybrids and Glassbreaker sympathizers increasingly occupy overlapping social spaces.
Sympathy Contamination
Internal security language increasingly frames repeated exposure to anti-classification testimony, foreign advocacy and demi-human personal narratives as a potential pathway toward ideological unreliability.
The Threat Is Not That Students Are Angry
Manageable Problem
A loud protest can be fenced, monitored, photographed, dispersed and described as youthful instability.
Structural Problem
Human doctors, scientists and future officials beginning to identify emotionally with demi-human subjects threatens the assumptions required to keep the system socially acceptable.
That is why the phrase reveals more than the protest itself. San Aurelo does not merely fear dissent. It fears the possibility that empathy can move through a population faster than official language can contain it.
The dangerous idea is not that the files were leaked. It is that people reading them might care.
Private Ancestry Review // White Census Pending White Census // Elite Ancestry Review
Before the White Census
Classification becomes much more complicated when the families who built the system begin wondering what it might classify them as.
The approaching White Census has created a quiet industry of private ancestry review among political, professional and Glass Family households. Lawyers, physicians, genealogists and discreet consultants are being asked questions wealthy clients once assumed only other families needed to fear.
Old birth records are reopened. Medical files are compared. Grandparents are discussed in lowered voices. Adoption histories become politically relevant. Family archives that once existed for prestige are examined for inconsistencies.
Publicly, elite families continue defending the importance of accurate classification. Privately, some are discovering they would prefer the system to become considerably more flexible.
Genetic Discrepancy Requires Verification
A private anomaly is not yet a legal reclassification. But once the White Census reaches the same household, discrepancies can affect far more than reputation.
What a Bloodline Can Suddenly Threaten
Suddenly, Everyone Wants Nuance
Attorneys
Families review inheritance structures, citizenship law and possible procedural challenges before official findings exist.
Private Testing
Discreet physicians and laboratories conduct ancestry reviews outside ordinary public-health channels.
Record Cleaning
Old files, family histories, adoption documents and medical records are examined for contradictions likely to attract Ministry attention.
Quiet Lobbying
Families who once praised strict ancestry law may suddenly favor exemptions, appeals, delayed enforcement or more sophisticated biological definitions.
When the System Targets Others
Classification is presented as objective, scientific, necessary and essential to national stability.
When the System Targets Them
The same families begin discussing complexity, privacy, inherited uncertainty and the dangers of reducing a person to one biological result.
The contradiction can exist in the same room. An elite family can panic over a possible demi-human marker while a registered demi-human attendant quietly pours their drinks.
Nobody needs to comment on the irony.
Purity is easy to defend when the test belongs to somebody else's child.

San Aurelo // Corporate Jewel-City
City of Reflection
Wealth // Water // Refinement // Control
Built around the deep aquifer basin known as the Pale Well, Glasswell is San Aurelo's polished center of finance, private medicine, luxury estates, elite tourism, ownership services and carefully managed wealth. It is smaller and more intimate than Aurelo Prime, but its influence reaches far beyond its elegant skyline.
Where Aurelo Prime governs the national doctrine, Glasswell turns that doctrine into a lifestyle. Here, control arrives through private contracts, discreet service entrances, financial systems, beautiful homes and institutions designed to make hierarchy look responsible.
Glasswell // City Identity
The City of Reflection
A City Built to Look Kind
Glasswell is softer than Aurelo Prime, but not kinder. Its streets are lined with reflective towers, rooftop gardens, luxury clinics, water terraces, quiet hotels, elegant shopping districts and beautifully maintained civic spaces.
Wealth does more than decorate Glasswell. It determines what becomes visible, what remains private, and what can be made socially acceptable through better architecture, gentler language and more expensive surroundings.
For recognized humans, Glasswell is aspirational. Its hospitals are prestigious, its parks immaculate, its restaurants fashionable and its private clubs among the most exclusive in San Aurelo. Finance, medicine, hospitality, corporate law and estate management keep the city rich.
Aurelo Prime writes the doctrine. Glasswell profits from making the doctrine beautiful.
Glasswell // Social Reality
The Polished Leash
Good Treatment Is Not Freedom
Glasswell's defining cruelty is not neglect. It is the ability to make ownership look comfortable, cultured and socially responsible.
For Humans
For wealthy humans, Glasswell can feel close to paradise. Private hospitals, prestigious schools, glittering shopping districts, rooftop pools, immaculate parks, quiet streets and discreet service are ordinary features of elite life.
For Demi-Humans
Owned demi-humans may be beautifully dressed, well fed, educated, medically cared for and publicly treated with affection. They may serve in estates, hotels, retail, entertainment and private social spaces.
None of that makes them free. The Glasswell Rule
A collar becomes a household security band. A sale becomes a custody transfer. Training becomes refinement. A holding room becomes a private service suite.
The language changes first. The door still locks. How Glasswell Controls
Glasswell does not like public arrests. It prefers problems handled quietly, indoors, and before morning.

Glasswell // Historic Core
The Pale Well
Water // Civic Life // Stewardship
Glasswell began with water. Long before the city's finance towers, private hospitals and estate districts, settlement grew around the deep aquifer basin now known as the Pale Well.
Today the old basin forms one of Glasswell's most prestigious public districts. Reflective plazas, water gardens, museums, restaurants, terraces and civic institutions wrap around the reservoir, turning essential infrastructure into one of the city's most carefully maintained symbols.
Glasswell presents the district as proof of human stewardship: a place where engineering transformed scarcity into abundance, and prosperity supposedly followed discipline. School groups tour it. Families spend afternoons beside it. Corporations use it as a backdrop for civic philanthropy.

Pale Well // Daily Life
Beside the Water
Cafés // Walks // Museums // Ordinary Glasswell
The Pale Well is one of the easiest places in Glasswell to forget what kind of country surrounds it. Office workers bring lunch to the water. Couples linger at terrace cafés. Families cross the gardens toward the Civic Museum. Students sit along the steps with wrist-comms glowing beside abandoned coffee cups.
Unlike the guarded estates of Clearbrook Heights or the intensely corporate Silver Basin, the district is designed to feel genuinely public. Most of its promenades remain busy from morning through evening, especially around restaurants, gardens, museum exhibitions and seasonal civic events.
Commuters cross the promenades, cafés fill with breakfast traffic, museum staff arrive, and maintenance crews tend the gardens before the tourist crowds thicken.
School groups, shoppers, families and business lunches dominate the basin. Reflection Steps become an informal meeting place between museum visits and waterside errands.
Restaurant terraces take over. Fountain lighting comes on, office crowds become date crowds, and the Pale Well turns into one of Glasswell's quieter evening destinations.
Who Is Visible Here
Recognized humans move freely through the district. Owned demi-humans appear more often than they do in many San Aurelan public spaces, usually as household companions, hospitality attendants, private guards, event staff or institution-linked workers.
Their presence is treated as ordinary precisely because it is controlled. Estate-linked wrist-comms, custodial authorization, handler proximity and work permissions keep public visibility compatible with Glasswell's idea of respectable ownership.

Pale Well // Civic Institution
Pale Well Civic Museum
History // Water Engineering // Responsible Wealth
The Pale Well Civic Museum presents the official story of Glasswell: a settlement made prosperous through water engineering, human ingenuity, disciplined planning and what its exhibits repeatedly call responsible stewardship.
Its galleries cover the first wells, reservoir construction, urban expansion, civic architecture and the financial institutions that eventually transformed Glasswell into one of San Aurelo's wealthiest cities.
The Public Exhibition
School tours move through immaculate models of the aquifer, restored engineering equipment, interactive reservoir maps, architectural displays and exhibits celebrating generations of Glasswell planners, donors and civic benefactors.
Missing From the Plaque
The museum's treatment of demi-human labor in the early waterworks is remarkably thin. Names disappear into phrases such as auxiliary labor, non-civic crews and contracted biological support. Surviving older records suggest their role was far larger than the exhibits admit.

Pale Well // Restricted Infrastructure
Below the Waterline
Reservoirs // Service Routes // Private Transfers
Beneath the promenades lies the older machinery of Glasswell: reservoir chambers, maintenance passages, storage rooms, inspection galleries, service lifts and waterworks built before the modern city grew over them.
Much of the network still performs legitimate municipal work. Other sections have been absorbed into private service infrastructure. Sealed corridors allow supplies, staff and registered demi-human assets to move between institutions without passing through the public streets above.
The Useful Back Door
No single corridor needs to look sinister. A museum requires deliveries. Restaurants need service access. Reservoir systems require maintenance. Private institutions value discretion. Glasswell's system works because perfectly ordinary infrastructure can serve several purposes at once.
A person can therefore disappear beneath a public plaza without the plaza changing at all. Above them, café tables remain full, fountains continue running and visitors keep photographing the water.
Glasswell // Financial District
The Silver Basin
Finance // Insurance // Law // Private Wealth
The Silver Basin is Glasswell's compact financial core, a district of reflective towers, private banks, insurance firms, inheritance offices, corporate legal houses and quiet executive plazas. Its architecture is sharper than the Pale Well and its streets noticeably more formal, but the district remains unmistakably Glasswell: water walls, polished stone, dark glass, discreet gardens and wealth presented as civic virtue.
This is where much of Glasswell's ownership economy becomes financial infrastructure. Demi-humans are insured, appraised, inherited, transferred and assessed as collateral through systems designed to make possession look indistinguishable from ordinary portfolio management.
Silver Basin // Daily Life
Money Never Touches the Body
Workdays // Service // Ownership Finance
Most people entering the Silver Basin are simply going to work. Analysts hurry between towers. Lawyers argue over lunch. Receptionists manage appointments. Clerks clear transfers. Assistants carry files between offices while cafés fill with employees trying to survive another morning meeting.
Controlled demi-humans are woven into the same workday as service attendants, household companions, private guards, couriers and support staff. Their presence is polished enough to disappear into the district's visual rhythm. A fox-eared server carrying coffee attracts no more attention than a marble reception desk.
Banking, accounting, corporate law, insurance, hospitality, investment management and estate administration keep thousands of ordinary human employees moving through the district every weekday.
Asset insurance, inheritance claims, custodial transfers, collateral reviews and ownership-risk assessments are processed beside entirely ordinary financial services.
Most workers never say that a person is being priced. They review exposure, value, compatibility, lineage confidence and transfer eligibility instead.

Assess // Certify // Insure // Transfer
The Custodial Valuation Exchange is where Glasswell turns legal ownership into a financial assessment. Owned demi-humans are brought here for appraisal before insurance agreements, inheritance reviews, custody transfers, estate settlements and collateral arrangements.
The process is deliberately clinical. Specialists document physical condition, lineage, behavioral records, service training and legal status while elegant holo-displays convert those observations into categories understandable to insurers, attorneys and private-wealth managers.
Medical condition, chronic risk, physical capability and projected care costs expressed as financial stability.
Registry confidence, ancestry documentation, bloodline rarity and market desirability condensed into a graded classification.
Behavioral history, resistance incidents, handler reports and compliance records reframed as predictable ownership risk.

Glasswell Bank Central is one of San Aurelo's most influential financial institutions and one of the Silver Basin's defining landmarks. Its public lobby is known for dark reflective stone, silver detailing, a towering waterfall wall and the famous civic sculpture Human Trust.
For ordinary clients, the bank handles exactly what its immaculate public image promises: investments, inheritance, corporate accounts, global transfers and private wealth management. Its deeper importance lies in the ownership economy operating through the same systems.
Public Face
Corporate banking, investment management, inheritance planning, private wealth services, international transfers and financial advising serve Glasswell's human citizens and businesses.
Private Machine
Behind the same polished desks, Glasswell Bank finances containment infrastructure, insures registered demi-human assets, manages elite custody transfers and converts ownership risk into respectable financial products.

Glasswell // Elite Residential District
Clearbrook Heights
Tower Estates // Penthouses // Private Living
Clearbrook Heights is a small, vertical enclave of luxury residential towers rising above Glasswell's lower streets. Its buildings are not numerous, but they are exceptionally expensive: glass-fronted estate towers, enormous apartments, rooftop gardens, private pools and multi-level penthouses built for families accustomed to privacy.
The district is quieter than Silver Basin and far less public than the Pale Well. Landscaped courts, private clubs, covered arrival drives and resident-only gardens create the feeling of an entire neighborhood reserved for people wealthy enough to remove most inconveniences from daily life.
Many of Glasswell's Glass Families maintain homes here. Their domestic demi-humans are more visible than they would be in many San Aurelan residential districts, appearing as attendants, household companions, guards, child-minders and personal staff. Their comfort is part of Clearbrook's image.

Clearbrook Heights // Daily Life
Life Above the City
Residents // Households // Private Service
Clearbrook is intentionally uneventful. Residents leave through staffed lobbies, collect groceries without leaving the district, meet neighbors in landscaped courts, take children to private gardens and spend evenings on terraces overlooking the rest of Glasswell.
Domestic demi-humans are part of that routine. A fox demi-human may carry purchases behind an estate resident. A cat demi-human serves drinks during lunch. A canine attendant waits beside a private vehicle. A household companion accompanies children through the gardens.
The district's residents often point to those lives as evidence of enlightened ownership. Demi-humans in wealthy households may receive tailored clothing, private rooms, excellent food, medical care and genuine affection.
Glass Families, senior executives, judges, physicians, wealthy inheritors and established professionals make up much of the district's permanent human population.
Estate life may involve concierges, drivers, cooks, cleaners, guards, assistants and domestic companion-class demi-humans working inside the same private residence.
Good food, beautiful clothing and affection do not create legal autonomy. An owned demi-human still cannot freely change households, relocate independently or simply decide to leave.

Clearbrook Heights // Places
Places to Belong
Dining // Wellness // Estates // Neighborhood Life
Clearbrook Heights has a deliberately small commercial footprint. Most establishments exist to serve residents rather than attract the rest of Glasswell, giving the district the feeling of a private neighborhood suspended above the larger city.
Clearline Estate Registry
Estate Services // LegalA discreet legal office handling household ownership licenses, estate compliance audits and custody transfers. Glass Families favor Clearline because complicated household arrangements can be processed without leaving the district.
The Clearbrook Club
Private Club // ResidentsA members-only neighborhood club with dining rooms, a cocktail lounge, spa facilities, meeting suites, private gardens and an event terrace used by residents of several estate towers.
Heights Market
Gourmet Market // Daily LifeA small luxury grocer supplying prepared meals, imported foods, flowers, household goods and same-day estate delivery. Domestic attendants frequently shop here through household-linked accounts.
The Glass Garden
Restaurant // Elevated DiningA garden restaurant spanning a lower rooftop terrace between residential towers. Known for evening views, intimate dinners and reservations booked far enough ahead to become a personality trait.
Clearbrook House
Spa // WellnessA neighborhood wellness club offering spa treatments, fitness, salon services, pools and private recovery suites. Residents can move between home, treatment and dinner without leaving the district's controlled environment.
Skycourt
Residents' Green // Social SpaceA raised landscaped courtyard linking several tower estates. Residents walk, meet neighbors, bring children outside and host small community events here beneath gardens designed to feel secluded despite the towers around them.

Clearbrook Heights // Elite Domestic Life
The Penthouse Estate
Privacy // Prestige // Household Control
At the top of Clearbrook's wealthiest residential towers, penthouse estate is not marketing language. Several residences occupy two or more floors and function less like apartments than private mansions placed above the city.
A penthouse estate may contain formal entertaining rooms, a private garden, pool terrace, library, guest suites, secondary kitchen, household service rooms and direct elevator access. Some families maintain private medical facilities or dedicated rooms for domestic companions within the residence itself.
The Residence
Glass walls, landscaped terraces, private pools and carefully controlled views make the estate feel physically removed from the city below. Guests may spend an entire evening here without entering a shared residential space.
The Household
Domestic demi-humans may serve meals, manage clothing, assist residents, accompany children, provide security or act as companions during social gatherings. In wealthy homes, they may be treated with obvious affection and familiarity.
The Comfort
Private rooms, tailored wardrobes, excellent food, medical care and species accommodations allow Glasswell owners to describe their households as humane, enlightened and responsible.
The Control
The same residence may pair doors, elevators, wrist-comms and movement permissions directly to the estate system. Comfort and restriction therefore coexist inside the same beautifully furnished rooms.

Clearbrook Heights // Household Infrastructure
The Other Elevator
Service // Access // Logistics // Compliance
Clearbrook's towers are designed around two parallel systems of movement. Residents pass through marble lobbies, garden atriums, private garages and panoramic elevators. The work required to make those spaces effortless moves through a second network behind them.
Service corridors handle laundry, deliveries, maintenance, household supplies and staff circulation. They also provide controlled movement for domestic demi-humans whose building access is tied directly to an estate, authorized floor or household account.
The system rarely needs chains or visible force. A household-linked scan determines which elevator opens, which floor can be reached and which exit recognizes the person standing in front of it.

Glasswell // Luxury Service District
Companion Row
Placement // Training // Presentation // Transfer
Companion Row is where Glasswell's ownership culture becomes consumer-facing. The compact commercial district is lined with companion brokerages, training academies, grooming salons, genetic-certification offices, private tailors and custody-transfer firms serving wealthy households across San Aurelo.
In practical terms, humans come here to acquire demi-humans. Glasswell simply refuses to describe the process that way. Clients review placements, discuss household compatibility, commission wardrobes, arrange certifications and complete custodial transfers in rooms designed to resemble luxury concierge offices rather than markets.
Demi-humans are unusually visible here. Existing household companions carry purchases and serve clients while prospective placements attend consultations, fittings, evaluations and training. Their fully human faces and bodies make the district's language of assets, placement and ownership considerably harder to ignore.

Companion Row // Legal Acquisition
The Placement Market
Consultation // Selection // Custody Transfer
Glasswell has no legal open-air demi-human market. Companion Row considers such a thing crude. Instead, licensed brokerages conduct private placement consultations for prospective human custodians.
Clients review digital profiles containing species, age, health, lineage, training, temperament, household compatibility and public presentation records. Candidates are then introduced privately, often in furnished lounges designed to resemble an employment interview or high-end adoption consultation.

Head of House Vellum
Director // Broker // Placement AuthorityTall, immaculate and almost aggressively composed, the current head of House Vellum oversees the brokerage's most valuable placements personally. Blonde hair and cool gray eyes earned the coloring a private nickname he repeats often enough that his staff have heard it hundreds of times: gold and silver.
He considers House Vellum a curator rather than a seller. Clients are expected to arrive knowing what kind of household they intend to build, and Vellum reserves the right to refuse prestigious placements when he considers a buyer vulgar, careless or damaging to the House's reputation.
None of that makes him an abolitionist. His standards concern presentation, longevity, prestige and placement stability. He is perfectly comfortable with the ownership system itself.
House Vellum Companions
Exceptional Placement
People // Potential // Placement
House Vellum occupies one of Companion Row's most prominent storefronts. Its clients include Glass Families, senior executives, wealthy inheritors and foreign buyers able to satisfy San Aurelan custodial requirements.
Rather than maintaining a public sales floor, Vellum operates through appointment-only consultations. Client preferences are matched against available candidates, training records, medical assessments and lineage documentation before any private introduction occurs.

House Vellum // Premium Placement
Exceptional Companions
Rare Species // Purebred Lines // Hybridized Traits
House Vellum's premium catalogue is reserved for companions whose species, lineage, training or unusual trait combinations command exceptional placement values. The language of rarity is deliberately borrowed from luxury collecting, turning ancestry and physical traits into prestige markers for prospective households.
Demi-human species rarely available through ordinary companion brokerages. Unusual biology, difficult accommodations or limited registered populations can dramatically increase demand.
Individuals whose documented ancestry follows a single recognized species line across multiple generations. Prestige depends heavily on registry confidence and the reputation of the recorded lineage.
Rare mixed-species demi-humans displaying traits inherited from two distinct lines. Certain combinations become highly desirable precisely because they are difficult to reproduce or document.
Candidates with advanced household education, public presentation training, verified health records and strong placement histories receive additional premium classification.
Premium is a commercial classification, not an objective measure of a demi-human's worth. Companion Row is simply very good at making the distinction difficult to hear.

Companion Row // Training Institution
Aureate Companion Institute
Etiquette // Service // Presentation // Compliance
The Aureate Companion Institute is Glasswell's most prestigious finishing academy for domestic companion-class demi-humans. Graduates are sought by wealthy households throughout San Aurelo, particularly families that consider public presentation part of responsible ownership.
The Institute looks less like a detention facility than an elite private school. Marble training halls, mirrored studios, formal dining rooms, fitting suites and landscaped courts teach students how to move through upper-class human society without disturbing it.
Posture, introductions, dining behavior, guest interaction and the social expectations of formal human households.
Table service, wardrobe care, room preparation, household routines and role-specific assistance expected by elite custodians.
Grooming, clothing, posture, species-aware presentation and maintaining an appropriate appearance during public events.
Recognition of household cues, behavioral expectations, communication protocols and rapid compliance with direct instructions.
Moving through restaurants, clubs, events, shops and civic spaces without creating embarrassment or unwanted attention for the household.
Final assessments determine household compatibility, training level, presentation quality and the environments in which a graduate may be marketed.

Companion Row // Unlisted Network
Lower Row
Unregistered // Unrecorded // Unapproved
Lower Row is not a separate neighborhood and has no official boundary. The name refers to a shifting network of basements, upper-floor suites, service passages, private elevators and back-room businesses hidden inside Companion Row's legitimate commercial infrastructure.
This is where the district handles people and transactions that cannot survive ordinary San Aurelan paperwork: unregistered demi-humans, stolen companions, escaped assets, forged lineages, erased ownership histories and rare hybrids whose records would create questions rather than value.
Custody changes occur without official registry updates, allowing buyers to acquire demi-humans whose possession could not be openly defended.
Forged lineage files, replacement identities, false ownership histories and manipulated registry records create a clean legal surface for people with inconvenient pasts.
Private clinicians perform examinations, conceal hybrid markers, alter records and provide medical services that licensed Companion Row businesses will not document.
The same infrastructure can occasionally be used in reverse. Forged deaths, false transfers and erased records can help a demi-human disappear from ownership entirely, if the person arranging it is actually trying to help.
The Difference

Glasswell // Shopping & Entertainment District
Prism Quarter
Fashion // Dining // Art // Leisure
Prism Quarter is Glasswell's primary shopping district, a dense collection of designer boutiques, department stores, jewelers, galleries, beauty houses, cafés and entertainment venues built around the pedestrian avenue known as Prism Walk.
Its name comes from the district's architecture rather than any obsession with bright color. Dichroic glass canopies, crystalline installations, reflective pavement and carefully angled façades catch Glasswell's cool daylight and fracture it into restrained washes of blue, violet, rose and pale gold.
Unlike Companion Row's appointment-based quiet, Prism Quarter is openly commercial and deliberately crowded. Residents come here to shop, eat, meet friends, date, attend performances and, just as importantly, be seen doing all of those things.

Prism Quarter // Daily Life
The Art of Spending
Shopping // Service // Style // Display
Prism Quarter is where Glasswell's wealth becomes ordinary social behavior. Friends meet over pastries before shopping. Couples drift between boutiques. Corporate employees stop for dinner after work. Families spend entire afternoons moving between department stores, cafés and public installations.
Glasswell rarely describes this culture as materialism. Residents prefer the language of craftsmanship, longevity, quality, presentation and responsible luxury. Buying well is treated as evidence of judgment, and poor taste is often considered more embarrassing than obvious excess.
Professionals, Glass Families, tourists, students with expensive aspirations and ordinary residents using the district as a social destination keep Prism Walk crowded throughout the day.
Luxury retailers rely heavily on demi-human attendants, sales associates, servers, valets, porters, models and private security staff to maintain the district's polished experience.
Shopping in Prism Quarter is public theater. New clothes, restaurant reservations, personal attendants and recognizable shopping bags all become subtle measures of status.
Demi-humans working here are generally expected to look as polished as the merchandise around them. Certain brands even recruit particular species traits to reinforce a desired image, a practice politely referred to as species-aware branding.

Prism Quarter // Retail Landmark
Prism House
Fashion // Beauty // Jewelry // Home // More
Prism House is Glasswell's best-known department store and the architectural centerpiece of Prism Quarter. Several retail levels circle a central atrium beneath a faceted glass roof, where suspended crystal installations scatter pale colored light across white stone balconies and polished floors.
Unlike the appointment-driven businesses of Companion Row, Prism House is designed for browsing. Customers can drift from cosmetics to fashion, jewelry, technology, home goods and dining without leaving the building.
Designer labels, seasonal collections, formalwear, casual luxury and in-house tailoring occupy several of the busiest floors.
Cosmetics, fragrance, skin care and private consultation counters cluster around the bright lower atrium.
Glass cases display watches, precious metals and stones under tightly controlled lighting and even tighter private security.
Furniture, tableware, décor, lighting and household technology are presented in full model rooms designed to make ordinary furniture feel existentially inadequate.
Private clients can book dedicated shoppers, dressing rooms and delivery service without carrying purchases through the store.
Cafés and small restaurants occupy upper terraces overlooking the atrium, keeping customers inside long after sensible shopping decisions would have sent them home.
Demi-human sales attendants, porters, beauty assistants and café staff are common throughout Prism House. Their service is presented as part of the store's promise that every inconvenience can be made invisible.

Prism Quarter // After Dark
Afterlight
Dining // Drinks // Performance // Late Nights
Afterlight is the local name for Prism Quarter's entertainment end, where retail gradually gives way to restaurants, performance venues, lounges and rooftop terraces. It is not an official district, but most Glasswell residents know exactly what someone means when they say they are spending the evening there.
After sunset, Prism Quarter's architecture does most of the work. Faceted glass catches violet and pale-blue illumination while warm restaurant windows, gold lamps and fountain light keep the streets elegant rather than aggressively neon.
The area's major performance venue combines dinner service with live music, dance, theatrical programming and private events.
A popular elevated restaurant terrace for cocktails, dinner and long conversations under the district's refracted night lighting.
Restaurants remain active well after most boutiques close, drawing theater crowds, dates, professionals and anyone refusing to admit the night should probably be over.
Evening clothes, private cars, household attendants and visible reservations turn Afterlight into one of Glasswell's favorite places for status to masquerade as relaxation.
Demi-human servers, attendants, performers and private household companions remain highly visible after dark. Service simply changes wardrobe as Prism Quarter shifts from shopping to social life.

Glasswell // Medical District
Whitewater Medical Mile
Hospitals // Genetics // Fertility // Recovery
Whitewater Medical Mile is Glasswell's concentrated private-health district, a bright boulevard of specialist hospitals, fertility centres, genetics clinics, pharmacies, recovery facilities and landscaped patient spaces linked by glass bridges and covered pedestrian routes.
Its institutions serve wealthy residents, foreign patients, Glass Families and corporate clients seeking medicine with an unusual degree of discretion. Ordinary surgery, maternity care, rehabilitation and specialist treatment operate beside ancestry screening, cosmetic genetics, reproductive planning and highly private biological review.
Whitewater's reputation depends as much on confidentiality as medicine. Glasswell's wealthiest patients expect difficult diagnoses, family secrets and inconvenient biology to remain inside the clinic where they were discovered.

Whitewater // Daily Life
Between Appointments
Patients // Staff // Visitors // Recovery
Most days on Whitewater Medical Mile look almost aggressively normal. Doctors cross between buildings. Nurses grab coffee between shifts. Visitors carry flowers through hospital lobbies. Patients wait for rides, collect prescriptions or sit outside after appointments while specialist teams move overhead through glass skybridges.
Wealth changes the atmosphere more than medicine itself. Appointment schedules are quieter, rooms are more private, recovery is more comfortable and families with enough money rarely have to expose difficult medical situations to the public for long.
Surgery, diagnostics, maternity care, neurology, cardiology, oncology, rehabilitation and routine specialist medicine account for most of Whitewater's daily activity.
Demi-human patients receive ordinary treatment alongside species-specific care, reproductive medicine, injury treatment and medical evaluation linked to household or institutional custody.
Domestic companions, personal aides, drivers and household attendants frequently accompany human patients, manage belongings or wait through appointments on their custodian's behalf.

Whitewater // Medical Landmark
Whitewater Saint Hospital
Advanced Care // Private Medicine // Research
Whitewater Saint is one of Glasswell's most prestigious medical institutions, serving wealthy residents, international patients, corporate clients and Glass Families through a broad network of specialist departments.
Its public atrium is deliberately reassuring: white stone, quiet reception desks, gardens, pale medical displays, private waiting spaces and enough natural light to make even difficult appointments feel temporarily manageable.
Neurology, cardiology, oncology, diagnostics, surgery and other specialist services form the hospital's everyday medical core.
High-cost suites provide privacy, household accommodation and tightly controlled visitor access for patients whose names or conditions attract unwanted attention.
Maternity, fertility support and reproductive specialists work closely with the wider Whitewater genetics and family-planning network.
Species-specific medicine, high-value custodial examinations and specialized treatment are provided through both public and restricted departments.
The hospital maintains genetics, lineage and biological research programs whose funding relationships are considerably less visible than its public medical work.
Several elevators and corridors require separate authorization. Most patients never have reason to notice them.

Whitewater Saint // Restricted Medicine
Behind the White Door
Genetics // Ancestry // Research // Custodial Care
Whitewater Saint's restricted medical floors are built into the same institution as its ordinary clinics. The architecture barely changes. The lighting becomes colder, the doors gain authorization panels and the public directories simply stop listing what comes next.
These wings handle cases considered too sensitive for normal medical circulation: ancestry discrepancies, hybrid-risk reviews, valuable demi-human examinations, restricted reproductive work, sealed genetics research and biological records tied to custodial or political interests.
Detailed lineage analysis investigates genetic inconsistencies, hybrid markers and records that do not match the identity a patient is legally expected to possess.
Owned demi-humans may undergo medical evaluation for health, reproductive status, transfer clearance, valuation or household requirements imposed by a legal custodian.
Biological traits associated with mixed ancestry are documented, classified and compared against registry expectations and institutional risk standards.
Certain findings are stored outside ordinary patient systems, limiting who can view the information and who is informed that the examination occurred at all.
Restricted genetics programs operate through medical grants, private foundations and institutional partnerships whose public descriptions rarely explain the full research population.
Fertility, heredity and reproductive compatibility become matters of medical authority when the patient's biology intersects with lineage law, ownership or political concern.
The distinction between treatment and control can become difficult to locate once legal autonomy is missing. A procedure may be medically appropriate, professionally performed and still occur because someone other than the patient had the authority to approve it.

Glasswell // Public Green District
Reflection Parks
Gardens // Waterways // Recreation // Civic Life
Reflection Parks is Glasswell's largest concentration of public green space, a connected chain of landscaped parks, lakes, gardens, lawns and wooded paths cutting through the city's otherwise dense glass and stone development.
Rather than forming one enormous rectangular park, the district follows a series of watercourses and landscaped corridors. White footbridges, walking paths and streams connect larger recreational spaces with quieter groves, botanical gardens, cafés and small civic pavilions.
Reflection Parks is also one of the easiest places to understand why humans genuinely love Glasswell. The lawns are clean, the water is clear, the gardens are meticulously maintained and entire afternoons can pass here without anybody needing to enter another building.

Reflection Parks // Daily Life
The Green City
Picnics // Walking // Family // Rest
Reflection Parks is where Glasswell loosens its collar. Families picnic on open lawns, couples disappear down garden paths, students read beneath trees, joggers circle the lakes and office workers turn lunch breaks into excuses to sit beside water for another twenty minutes.
The district is intentionally casual by Glasswell standards. Shoes come off on picnic blankets. Children run through grass. Outdoor tables remain crowded for hours. The city's obsession with immaculate presentation survives, but here it competes with actual comfort.
Picnics, jogging, casual sports, reading, photography, dates, family outings and outdoor dining make the parks one of Glasswell's most broadly used public districts.
Owned demi-humans may accompany households, carry picnic supplies, supervise children, provide security or simply remain beside the people authorized to bring them into the parks.
Demi-human café workers, groundskeepers and municipal attendants also work throughout the park system under approved employment or institutional authorization.
To an unfamiliar visitor, the distinction between a human's friend, employee and owned companion may be impossible to identify visually. The difference exists mostly in permissions: who can enter alone, who can leave alone, and whose presence requires someone else's authorization.

Reflection Parks // Places

The Reflection Parks are large enough that residents usually refer to individual lakes, lawns and gardens rather than simply saying they are going to the park. Paths and waterways connect each space into one continuous green district.

Reflection Parks // Civic Landmark
The Hollow Fountain
Water // Reflection // Messages Unseen
The Hollow Fountain sits near the center of the park network, surrounded by trees, flower beds and broad white-stone seating. Cascading water falls around a twisting glass sculpture above a shallow reflective basin, making the fountain a common meeting place, photo spot and place to sit during hot afternoons.
Nothing about the fountain's official design is secret. What matters is the layer that Glasswell's public systems do not display. Modified wrist-comms can reveal unauthorized holo-marks embedded around the structure, allowing coded messages to survive in plain sight without altering the physical stone.
Families gather beside the water, couples meet beneath the trees and visitors photograph the glass sculpture against Glasswell's skyline. It is an ordinary and well-loved civic landmark.
Hidden holo-graffiti, location cues and coded fragments appear around the basin only through altered systems capable of reading an unauthorized information layer.
A cracked Glasswell tower reflected in water has become the fountain's best-known resistance mark, recognizable to people who know where and how to look.
Water sensors and environmental drones monitor the area as part of normal park maintenance, making every clandestine message exchange a calculation rather than a safe ritual.

Reflection Parks // After Dark
After Reflection
Quiet Paths // Monitoring // Hidden Signals
Reflection Parks remain open well into the evening. Path lamps turn the bridges gold, fountains catch the blue-white light of Glasswell's skyline and the daytime crowds thin into couples, late joggers, students, restaurant guests and residents taking the long route home.
The parks also become easier to use quietly after dark. Tree cover, winding paths and dozens of ordinary reasons to linger allow short meetings, information handoffs and coded communication without requiring anyone to enter an obviously suspicious location.
Hidden marks around the fountain become useful once altered wrist-comms can separate unauthorized holo-data from the park's ordinary civic systems.
Benches, bridges, garden paths and café terraces provide dozens of plausible reasons for two people to share the same place without appearing to have deliberately met there.
Small monitoring drones become more visible as moving lights above the trees. Officially they track weather, irrigation, water quality and park conditions.
The same systems can support facial recognition, wrist-comm checks, movement records and authorization verification without requiring overt police presence.
This does not turn Reflection Parks into a resistance stronghold. Most people walking beneath the trees at night really are only walking beneath the trees. That ordinary life is precisely what makes the occasional hidden exchange possible.

Glasswell // Subsurface Infrastructure
Underwell
Water // Utilities // Logistics // Hidden Routes
Underwell is not a neighborhood in the ordinary sense. It is the enormous service layer beneath Glasswell, an interconnected network of reservoirs, maintenance corridors, utility chambers, freight lifts, waterworks and private logistics routes supporting the polished city above.
Modern infrastructure has accumulated over older systems rather than replacing them completely. New pump stations sit beside obsolete aquifer tunnels. Service elevators intersect abandoned inspection routes. Corporate transfer corridors pass within meters of chambers built before Glasswell looked anything like the city visible today.
Most residents never enter Underwell. They experience its work as clean fountains, working elevators, delivered goods, stable water pressure and maintenance problems that seem to disappear before anyone important has to notice them.

Underwell // Daily Operations
The Invisible City
Maintenance // Water // Delivery // Service
Underwell is busy long before most of Glasswell wakes. Reservoir technicians inspect pressure systems, maintenance crews cross service bridges, cargo operators move deliveries between districts and building teams disappear into elevators that never open onto a public lobby.
Humans and demi-humans both work throughout the active infrastructure. Demi-human labor is especially common in maintenance, delivery, household service and institutional support roles, although access remains tied to employment, custody or assigned authorization.
Reservoir engineers, filtration staff and pump technicians keep Glasswell's municipal water, decorative waterways and pressure systems operating around the clock.
Freight lifts and underground routes move food, linen, equipment, luxury goods, medical supplies and maintenance materials without sending every delivery vehicle through public streets.
Separate authorized routes allow household and institutional demi-humans to be moved between estates, facilities and transfer points without passing through ordinary pedestrian districts.

The Underwell Red Door is not a permanent headquarters. It is a moving contact point used by Glassbreakers to connect escapees, couriers, forged records, medicine and route information without concentrating the network in one location long enough to be destroyed.
The physical door changes. An old pump-room entrance may serve for a month, followed by a maintenance basement, abandoned locker corridor or disused reservoir access room somewhere else beneath the city.
What remains consistent is the instruction: find the Red Door. Someone inside the network provides the route needed to locate its current version.
Escaped domestic demi-humans, exposed hybrids, couriers and Glassbreaker contacts pass through briefly before continuing toward safer routes.
Forged identities, altered custody records, false death certificates and replacement travel documentation can separate a person from the identity Glasswell uses to track them.
Basic treatment supplies, prescription replacements and medical necessities are kept portable so the network can move without abandoning an entire clinic behind.
Current patrol schedules, working service codes, tunnel conditions and temporary exit paths matter more than any single hiding place.

Underwell // Unofficial Routes
The Escape Network
Routes // Documents // Supplies // Choice
Glassbreaker routes are not a single tunnel leading conveniently out of Glasswell. The network is a constantly revised collection of service passages, maintenance shafts, abandoned waterworks, borrowed access codes and temporary safe points stitched together by people who understand the city's infrastructure better than its maps do.
Escapees move through the system as participants rather than cargo. They study routes, choose destinations, replace clothing, carry their own documents, check communications, treat injuries and decide whether the next step is another Underwell sector, an aboveground district or a route beyond Glasswell itself.
Patrol changes, working elevators, active maintenance crews, temporary closures and flooding conditions can alter a safe route within hours.
Forged documents, replacement comm identities and altered records help escapees move through systems designed to recognize them by ownership rather than personhood.
Injuries, medication needs, damaged tracking hardware and the effects of hurried travel are addressed wherever the network can safely establish a temporary treatment point.
Not every route leaves Glasswell immediately. Some return to Pale Well, Silver Basin, Clearbrook or service districts where a person can re-enter the city under a different identity.
The greatest advantage Underwell offers is not invisibility. Glasswell monitors too much infrastructure for that. Its advantage is complexity. Thousands of legitimate workers, overlapping systems and generations of obsolete construction create enough movement that the right person, with the right route, can occasionally become one more figure walking somewhere they are expected to belong.

San Aurelo // Lake Mythren
Mythren Wells
Water // Heritage // Research // Lake Life
Mythren Wells is a small town stretched along the northern shore of Lake Mythren, where old stone wells, quiet hotels, lake houses, cafés and narrow streets sit beside modern research facilities and working docks.
The settlement began with water. Early wells and shoreline access supported a modest community long before the lake became valuable to San Aurelan biological research. Laboratories, clinics and research docks followed slowly, never becoming large enough to erase the older town that surrounded them.
Today, Mythren Wells survives through a mixture of heritage tourism, lake research, specialist medicine and the ordinary economy of a waterfront town. Visitors come for scenic overlooks, old wells, museums, quiet hotels, lake excursions and the strange reputation surrounding the water itself.
It feels considerably smaller and less formal than Aurelo Prime or Glasswell. Most important places can be reached on foot, the lake is visible from much of town, and residents tend to describe locations by shoreline, hill or landmark rather than municipal sector.

Mythren Wells // Local Regulation
The Lakeward Exception
More Visible // Still Controlled
Mythren Wells appears unusually relaxed by San Aurelan standards. Demi-humans work openly along the lakefront, accompany visitors, serve hotels and restaurants, assist research teams and move through public spaces with far greater visibility than in many inland cities.
That visibility exists because the town's research, tourism, conservation and lake-service economy requires it. The Lakeward Exception allows approved demi-humans to appear publicly when their presence can be attached to a recognized household, institution, employer, research program or custodial classification.
Commonly Permitted
Still Restricted
A Softer Kind of Control
Local attitudes are often more paternalistic than openly hostile. Residents are accustomed to animal ears, tails, wings, horns, feathers, scales and other demi-human traits, and many consider Mythren Wells more humane than Aurelo Prime. That comfort rarely extends to questioning the custodial system itself.
This is why Mythren Wells can look surprisingly integrated to an outsider. Humans and demi-humans may share the same promenade, restaurant terrace or research pier. The difference is not always visible in the scene. It is visible in who needs authorization to be there.

Mythren Wells // Local Geography
One Town, Three Faces
Lakeshore // Old Wells // Upperbank
Mythren Wells is too small for the rigid municipal districts common to San Aurelo's larger cities. Locals divide the town more naturally: the waterfront below, the original settlement around the old wells, and the quieter residential streets climbing the bank behind them.
These names are geographic shorthand rather than administrative borders. A street can leave Old Wells and become Upperbank almost without anyone agreeing exactly where the change happened. The lake remains the easiest point of orientation.
The town's liveliest edge, where cafés, hotels, docks, lake excursions and working boats gather along the promenade.
The original settlement, built around old waterworks, narrow stone streets and the businesses locals use every day.
Residential streets climbing behind town toward gardens, guesthouses, overlooks and larger private properties.

Mythren Wells // Waterfront
Lakeshore
Tourism // Dining // Hotels // Lake Work
Lakeshore follows the curve of Lake Mythren through the busiest part of town. Small hotels, cafés, restaurants and shops face a stone promenade broken by docks, marinas and narrow lanes leading back toward Old Wells.
It is where most visitors first meet Mythren Wells. Tour boats leave from public piers, research vessels move from quieter docks farther along the shore, and café terraces remain crowded through warm afternoons without ever becoming the dense commercial corridor of a larger city.
Life Beside the Water
Mornings belong to workers and boats. Afternoons bring visitors, lunches and lake tours. By evening the docks quiet, restaurant terraces glow along the promenade and returning vessels leave widening ripples across the harbor.
The Lakeward Exception is easiest to see here. Demi-human hotel attendants, servers, guides, dock workers, research assistants and household companions are ordinary sights along the waterfront, although their public presence remains attached to documented employment, custody or institutional permission.

Mythren Wells // Historic Center
Old Wells
Heritage // Local Shops // Old Waterworks
Old Wells is the oldest surviving part of Mythren Wells and the closest thing the town has to a traditional center. Narrow stone streets wind between old houses, tiny courtyards, shops and public wells that predate the research institutions now associated with the lake.
The neighborhood has changed without being rebuilt. Modern utilities disappear into old stone. Medical signage hangs beneath weathered arches. Security terminals sit beside fountains that have served the same square for generations.
The Town Before the Research
Tourists pass through Old Wells, but the neighborhood belongs primarily to residents. Its bakery, pharmacy, bookshop, little restaurants and civic offices are used because people need them, not because a tourism board placed them beside a scenic fountain.
Local stories cling to the older wells. Most are harmless folklore, repeated because grandparents heard them from their grandparents. Residents may laugh while telling visitors not to stare into an old well when Lake Mythren has gone perfectly still, but they usually remember to look away themselves.

Mythren Wells // Residential Heights
Upperbank
Homes // Inns // Gardens // Overlooks
Upperbank begins where the streets behind Old Wells start climbing away from the shore. Homes, small guesthouses and garden walls follow the slope upward, opening intermittent views across tiled rooftops toward Lake Mythren below.
It is the quietest of the town's three main areas. Buildings are generally one to three stories, streets narrow as they rise, and footpaths or stone stairways often provide a quicker route between elevations than driving around the hill.
Higher Ground
Properties grow gradually larger toward the outer hills rather than forming a separate wealthy quarter. Old family homes sit beside newer research households, small inns and the occasional private villa built primarily for its view of the lake.
Upperbank also has the strongest small-town awareness of who belongs where. A new tenant is noticed. An unfamiliar vehicle is noticed. Someone walking home at an unusual hour may be remembered days later, not because a system flagged them, but because somebody happened to be watering flowers on the same balcony they have occupied for thirty years.

Mythren Wells // Around Town
Places
Cafés // Inns // History // Research
Mythren Wells is small enough that most residents build their mental map from businesses, wells and familiar buildings rather than street numbers. A café can be a landmark. An old stair can define an entire corner. A hotel pier may be easier to find than the road beside it.
The town's public places reflect its mixed identity: part ordinary lakeside settlement, part heritage destination, part research outpost built beside water that has never stopped attracting questions.
Lakeshore
A small but polished lakefront hotel with balconies, a terrace restaurant, tour desk and private pier. Researchers, tourists and visiting families make up most of its guests.
The town's main museum, presenting crater geology, fossils, settlement history, lake ecology and carefully curated accounts of San Aurelan stewardship.
A compact market of produce, flowers, food, crafts, books, secondhand goods and lake souvenirs. Its evening reputation is considerably more complicated than its daytime one.
An older, less polished inn favored by journalists, visiting researchers and people who prefer conversations without a hotel concierge standing nearby.
Old Wells
A cramped old bookshop selling local histories, folklore, secondhand research texts, maps, postcards, antiques and handmade goods.
Coffee, tea, bread, soup, breakfast and simple lunches beside one of Old Wells' public fountains. Researchers and shopkeepers are more common here than tourists with itineraries.
An old descending stair leading toward Mythren Wells' earliest waterworks. Public access is closed, although not every route below the gate is as abandoned as the plaque suggests.
A modest secular memorial overlooking the water, dedicated to residents and researchers officially recorded as lost around Lake Mythren.
Upperbank / Town Edge
Mythren Wells' compact community hospital, providing ordinary care alongside specialist treatment for research personnel, unusual lake injuries and biological cases.
A small research campus studying crater geology, fossils, lake ecology and biological ancestry from the edge of town where residential streets begin giving way to research shore.

Lakeshore // Museum
Blackwater Museum
Geology // Fossils // History // The Lake
The Blackwater Museum is Mythren Wells' best-known public cultural institution, built above the Lakeshore with broad windows facing the water. Its galleries trace the crater's formation, local settlement, fossil record, changing lake ecology and the long history of human attempts to explain what Lake Mythren actually is.
For most visitors it is simply a good small museum. Families move between fossil displays and interactive geology exhibits. School groups crowd the ecology gallery. The gift shop sells replica fossils, lake maps and enough commemorative droplets to decorate several unfortunate refrigerators.
What the Museum Shows
Geological history, fossil morphology, early settlement, environmental change and a polished narrative of San Aurelan scientific stewardship around the lake.
What It Leaves Quiet
Demi-human history receives a much cleaner treatment. Ancestral remains and biological evidence are presented through categories that do not always reflect what researchers privately believe those specimens represent.

Old Wells // Historic Waterworks
The Old Well Steps
Closed Access // Old Water // Longer Memory
The Old Well Steps descend beneath a quiet corner of the historic center toward some of Mythren Wells' earliest surviving waterworks. Mossy stone, iron railings and old utility arches remain visible from the street before the stairs disappear behind a municipal gate.
Public access is officially prohibited because sections of the old system are unstable, flooded or no longer maintained. This explanation is believable enough. Parts of the network genuinely are unsafe.
Above the Gate
Locals pass the steps on errands, tourists photograph the old stonework and nearby businesses use the landmark when giving directions. Nothing about it requires a conspiracy.
Below the Gate
Older maintenance passages remain connected in ways modern maps no longer fully document. Smugglers, hidden hybrids and Glassbreaker contacts have all made use of those gaps.
Nobody in Mythren Wells agrees on how much remains beneath the oldest part of town. Some corridors end in collapsed stone. Others reach water. A few emerge somewhere entirely different from where local memory insists they should.

Lakeshore // Local Market
Lacuna Market
Produce // Crafts // Food // Things Unlisted
Lacuna Market occupies a covered arcade where Lakeshore begins folding back toward Old Wells. Permanent stalls and temporary tables sell produce, flowers, bread, lake crafts, books, secondhand goods, souvenirs and the ordinary clutter that accumulates wherever a town has traded in the same place for long enough.
During the day it is thoroughly respectable. Residents buy groceries. Visitors browse local crafts. Children discover that every stall somehow sells something sticky. Researchers stop for food on their way back from the docks.
What Anyone Can Buy
Flowers, food, maps, handmade goods, antiques, local books, lake souvenirs and half the ingredients required to make dinner without walking all the way back uphill.
What Requires the Right Question
Forged lake permits, restricted maps, hybrid medicine, stolen research notes, rumor networks and introductions to people who do not advertise their services on market signs.
There is no secret basement where the illicit market begins. The same stallholder who sells old postcards in the afternoon may know who has medicine after closing. The distinction is social, temporary and deliberately difficult to prove.

Mythren Wells // Everyday Life
Daily Life
Work // Neighbors // Research // Lake
Mythren Wells moves at the scale of a town rather than a city. Researchers walk downhill toward the docks in the morning, shops open onto narrow streets, hotel kitchens begin breakfast before the tour boats leave, and residents routinely cross half the town on foot without considering it much of a journey.
The lake shapes nearly every routine. Weather determines which boats leave, tourism determines when Lakeshore becomes crowded, research schedules determine which docks wake before sunrise, and even people living in Upperbank tend to measure errands by whether they are going down toward the water or back uphill.
Dock crews, deliveries, breakfasts, research departures and shopkeepers opening shutters before visitors fill Lakeshore.
Cafés, market traffic, museum visitors, errands, lake tours and the easy overlap between locals, researchers and tourists.
Returning boats, restaurant terraces, market lanterns and quieter streets as the waterfront settles back into a small town.
Work Without the Performance
Demi-human labor remains ordinary throughout Mythren Wells, but the local expectation is practical rather than decorative. Hotel attendants, servers, dock workers, lake guides, research assistants and household companions are expected to work well, not to remain visually perfect while doing it.
A fox demi-human may finish a café shift with flour on their apron. A lake worker may come back soaked to the knee. Someone hauling equipment might sit on a dock during break with their hair coming loose and nobody decides this represents the collapse of civilization.
Familiar Faces
Long-term demi-human workers often become known around town by name. Residents know which guide works the afternoon boats, which hotel attendant remembers every returning family, or which research aide actually understands the eastern trail conditions. Familiarity does not erase legal status, but it does change how everyday interactions feel.

Mythren Wells // Local Custom
A Longer Leash
More Movement // More Familiarity // Same Status
Mythren Wells gives many demi-humans more room to move than they would receive in stricter San Aurelan cities. The Lakeward Exception, smaller population and practical demands of lake work make constant physical supervision inconvenient, so locally registered workers and companions may move between familiar locations without a custodian walking beside them.
A household companion might collect groceries alone. A hotel worker may walk home from Lakeshore after a shift. A research assistant may cross town between the Basin Institute and a dock without escort. None of these things necessarily imply legal independence.
What Feels Different
What Has Not Changed
The Mythren Way
Many residents sincerely consider Mythren Wells kinder than the larger San Aurelan cities. They may know demi-humans personally, dislike overt cruelty, allow greater individuality and view proper accommodations as basic decency. Most still accept the custodial system itself as normal.
This creates a town where a demi-human can be greeted warmly by name, handed their usual coffee, trusted to run an errand alone and still be expected to return to the household, institution or employer under whose authority they are registered.
The difference is real. So is the boundary around it.

San Aurelo // Lake Mythren
Lake Mythren
Water // Crater // Research // Unanswered Depths
Lake Mythren fills an enormous mountain basin beneath the town that bears its name. Its northern shore supports hotels, docks, homes and research facilities, while much of the wider lake remains bordered by forest, steep rock, islands and stretches of water where human settlement becomes increasingly sparse.
For residents, it is first and foremost a real lake. People sail on it, work beside it, study its weather, complain when storms delay boats, teach children where the currents become difficult and measure whole parts of their lives by how close they are to its shore.
Its scientific reputation comes from what lies beneath that ordinary surface. Unusual depth, complex crater geology, fossil evidence and biological anomalies have made Lake Mythren one of San Aurelo's longest-running research environments.

Lake Mythren // Physical Geography
The Mythren Basin
Shelf // Drop // Ridge // Trench // Central Depth
Lake Mythren does not descend evenly. Its basin is a broken system of shelves, ridges, sudden drops and deep-water channels shaped by the ancient crater beneath the modern lake.
The northern waters nearest Mythren Wells are comparatively shallow and heavily mapped. Farther from town, the lake floor drops sharply into deeper structures where pressure, temperature, visibility and access become increasingly difficult to manage.
A Lake Above a Crater
Rock fractures, submerged caverns, mineral channels and buried geological structures complicate the basin beyond simple depth. Two locations at similar elevation may have entirely different temperatures, currents, sediment or biological conditions.
This is why Lake Mythren remains difficult to call fully mapped. Researchers know the broad shape of the basin. They do not know every cavity, shelf, channel or structure hidden within it.

Lake Mythren // Recorded History
History
Different Eras // Same Waters
Human understanding of Lake Mythren has changed repeatedly without changing the lake itself. Each generation has inherited earlier stories, renamed older observations and added new explanations for phenomena that were already present long before formal research began.
The basin, springs and lake predate Mythren Wells entirely. Early markers, stories and warnings treated the water as something to be respected rather than possessed.
Wells and freshwater access drew permanent settlement. Fishing, transport and shoreline commerce turned the lake into livelihood as well as landscape.
Geological and biological research expanded around the basin, revealing depths, fossils and anomalies that transformed the lake into a permanent scientific priority.
Modern institutions often present this progression as a clean movement from superstition toward knowledge. Local history is less tidy. Old shoreline warnings sometimes correspond suspiciously well with places researchers later classified as dangerous or biologically unusual.
What Changed
The tools became better. The maps became more precise. Boats became research vessels and stories became data points. What did not change was the recurring discovery that the lake contained something people had not accounted for yet.

Lake Mythren // Local Stories
Rumors
Stories // Warnings // Misremembered Truths
Every old lake collects stories. Lake Mythren has had more time than most, and modern research has done remarkably little to stop people telling them.
Locals disagree constantly about which rumors are nonsense, which are exaggerated accounts of known hazards and which became folklore only because nobody wanted to write the original event down properly.
Rumor Is Not Evidence
Some stories contradict one another. Some can be explained by fog, acoustics, currents, poor navigation, illegal research activity or people making a good story better with every retelling. A few remain uncomfortable because documented research has independently noticed something similar.

Lake Mythren // Controlled Research Waters
The Research Zone
Geology // Biology // Conservation // Oversight
The Research Zone occupies a controlled stretch of Lake Mythren where public boating, diving and shoreline access give way to institutional permits. Research docks, sensor platforms, laboratories and support vessels operate from the Mythren Basin Institute and associated facilities along the water.
Most of the work conducted here is exactly what it claims to be. Researchers map the basin, monitor water chemistry, study fossils, track ecological change, examine unusual species and maintain long-term geological records.
Sonar, remote vehicles and fixed sensors are used to refine maps of shelves, channels, trenches, caverns and unstable rock.
Water conditions, fish populations, microorganisms and isolated ecological pockets are monitored across different depths.
Crater deposits and recovered remains are studied for extinct species, environmental change and biological lineages.
Unusual specimens, ancestry markers and findings that do not fit ordinary classifications move through more restricted programs.
Protected habitats, sensitive shoreline areas and controlled species programs provide legitimate reasons for limiting public access to some waters.
Vessel identification, permit checks, sensor monitoring and controlled docking make the research zone one of the most closely watched parts of the lake.
Public Science, Private Questions
The Mythren Basin Institute publishes legitimate research and supports real conservation work. Some programs, especially those involving biological ancestry, unusual specimens and deep-water discoveries, operate behind narrower access rules and quieter funding relationships.
That mixture is what makes the zone difficult to reduce to either “scientific facility” or “secret operation.” It is both ordinary and restricted at once, depending entirely on which dock, laboratory, dataset or research question someone is authorized to approach.

San Aurelo // National Geography
Major Regions
Land // Water // Industry // Borders
San Aurelo stretches across warm limestone country shaped by broad grasslands, mesquite scrub, prickly pear, rivers and long belts of semi-arid terrain. Yellow-gold grass dominates much of the national landscape, broken by living green wherever water, elevation or cultivation allows it to hold.
The country's major regions are distinguished less by abrupt biome changes than by water access, elevation, border influence, agriculture and infrastructure. The same rocky grassland can become vineyard country beside a river, cedar country around a spring, or freight country where the land dries toward the southern frontier.
Rolling limestone country surrounding Aurelo Prime, crossed by major rivers, highways, rail, farmland and the dense civic systems of San Aurelo's political center.
Rockier, more wooded northern country where cedar, juniper, oak and spring-fed creeks gradually increase toward the difficult Eirwold border.
Dry ridges, freight corridors and climbing valleys carrying San Aurelan trade toward the Crownwall and Pecos Crown.
The most heavily cultivated region, where broad rivers support orchards, vineyards, estates, research agriculture and strong trade links with Brazoria Vale.
Hotter, thinner grassland approaching Mesquite Reach, defined by freight routes, service towns, scrub, cactus and the less polished edge of San Aurelan commerce.
A Country of Gold and Water
Green country in San Aurelo is usually something that can be explained: a river bottom, spring, irrigated field, managed estate or lake basin. Away from those places, dry grass, limestone, mesquite and scrub remain the national visual baseline.
Major Regions // San Aurelo

San Aurelo // Central Region
The Aurelo Heartland
Civic Core // Plains // National Center
The Aurelo Heartland surrounds Aurelo Prime across broad rolling limestone country where yellow grass, mesquite, live oak, prickly pear and rocky shelves are cut by rivers, reservoirs and heavily managed agricultural belts.
It is San Aurelo's most densely connected region. Highways, passenger rail, freight lines and smaller commuter settlements radiate outward from the capital, while farms, civic campuses and suburban development fill the country between them.
Landscape
Dry gold dominates the uplands. River corridors turn sharply greener, supporting oak, agricultural land and denser settlement before the terrain returns to grass and scrub only a short distance away.
Settlement & Work
Government, education, professional services, food production, transport and light manufacturing anchor the regional economy. Most human residents experience San Aurelo here as stable, prosperous and remarkably functional.
Aurelo Heartland // San Aurelo

San Aurelo // Northern Region
Cedar Verge
Northern Margin // Creek Country // Eirwold Border
Cedar Verge marks the gradual northern transition from San Aurelo's open grasslands into rockier creek country. Cedar, juniper, live oak and denser brush gather around springs and drainage corridors while gold grass, cactus and exposed limestone remain visible across the higher ground.
The closer the region approaches Eirwold, the thicker the vegetation becomes. San Aurelo responds by making its own side increasingly surveyed, maintained and monitored.
Water & Woodland
Spring-fed creeks, reservoirs, orchards and wooded ravines make Cedar Verge naturally greener than most of central San Aurelo, although dry limestone ridges and yellow grass remain part of the landscape rather than disappearing beneath continuous forest.
The Watched North
Environmental stations, forestry posts, border roads and remote observation towers are common. Many have legitimate conservation roles. Many also watch a neighboring country San Aurelo has never managed to map as confidently as it would prefer.
Cedar Verge // San Aurelo

San Aurelo // Western Region
The Western Vale
Foothills // Rail // Crownwall Approach
The Western Vale rises gradually from central San Aurelo toward the Crownwall, trading open rolling country for sharper limestone ridges, dry valleys, river cuts and long transport corridors threaded between increasingly difficult terrain.
Much of San Aurelo's western trade passes through here. Freight trains, mineral shipments, warehouses, inspection facilities and logistics settlements turn the Vale into one of the country's most important corridors despite its comparatively sparse population.
Stone & Rail
Gold grass, mesquite, cactus and exposed stone dominate the lower valleys. Rail bridges and highways follow the easiest routes between ridges before climbing toward the Crownwall crossings farther west.
The Pecos Connection
Raw materials and freight arriving from the Pecos Crown pass into cleaner terminals, stricter documentation systems and San Aurelan corporate logistics. The goods may be the same. The presentation changes almost immediately.
Western Vale // San Aurelo

San Aurelo // Eastern Region
The Eastern Reach
Riverlands // Estates // Brazoria Corridor
The Eastern Reach follows some of San Aurelo's broadest river corridors, where dependable water and fertile bottomland support the country's most intensive cultivation. Green fields, orchards and vineyards sit sharply against gold grass, mesquite and limestone beyond the irrigated land.
Large estates, agricultural research facilities and old family properties give the Reach a quieter form of wealth than Glasswell. Here, status is measured in acreage, water rights, productive land and inherited ownership rather than tower height.
Cultivated Country
Orchards, grain, specialty crops, vineyards, greenhouses and research agriculture dominate the river valleys. The surrounding uplands remain recognizably semi-arid, making the region's wealth visibly dependent on controlled water.
Labor Behind the Landscape
Demi-human labor is heavily used in estate service, greenhouses, specialized harvesting, sensory work, animal care and agricultural research. The Reach's cultivated beauty depends on workers San Aurelan society rarely includes when describing its prosperity.
Eastern Reach // San Aurelo

San Aurelo // Southern Region
The Southline
Dry Country // Freight // Mesquite Frontier
The Southline carries San Aurelo's familiar limestone country toward its driest extreme. Grass grows thinner, scrub spreads farther between settlements and long stretches of highway or freight rail cross land broken by mesquite, prickly pear, exposed stone and dry creek beds.
It remains grassland rather than true desert, but the transition toward Mesquite Reach is obvious. Heat lasts longer, water is more carefully managed and towns cluster around transport, repair, distribution and whatever work the road brings through.
The Working Road
Freight highways, rail depots, warehouses, truck stops, solar fields, service yards and distribution centers support communities that are more industrial and less image-conscious than San Aurelo's central cities.
The Mesquite Edge
Legal freight and informal economies overlap increasingly near the southern border. Smuggling, black-market transport and questionable disposal routes circulate beside ordinary trucking and warehouse work, often through the same towns and roads.
Southline // San Aurelo

San Aurelo // National Status
Current Status
Outwardly Stable // Internally Strained
There has been no collapse. Markets remain open. Rail traffic continues. Government offices function. Most human residents can still move through an ordinary week without personally experiencing anything they would describe as a national crisis.
What has changed is the number of systems operating at heightened caution. More travelers are screened. More families are audited. More files are sealed. More foreign governments are refusing San Aurelan custodial claims.
Official Explanation
What Keeps Happening
The Problem Beneath the Problems
San Aurelo can defend harsh laws as long as the classifications underneath those laws appear objective. The increasingly dangerous question is not whether the system is cruel. It is whether the system is accurate.

San Aurelo // Classification Crisis
The Purity Grid Leak
Records // Corporations // Classification Failure
The Purity Grid was designed to make ancestry, species and legal status appear measurable. In 2097, a major collection of internal files escaped controlled networks and exposed how closely corporate, medical, custodial and political records overlap.
The leak is enormous, incomplete and difficult to authenticate in full. That has not prevented journalists, foreign governments, activists and private families from searching it.
Records Reportedly Exposed
Government Response
San Aurelo has arguments prepared for accusations that the Grid is cruel. It has a much harder answer for evidence suggesting the Grid can be altered, suppressed or selectively trusted by the people administering it.

San Aurelo // Bloodline Verification
Continuity Audits
Lineage // Legacy // Classification
Continuity Audits are deep ancestry reviews used when bloodline legitimacy has legal, political or financial consequences. They examine far more than a routine identity scan and may compare family registries, medical records, heritage markers and Purity Grid classifications across generations.
The process has become increasingly common among political families, corporate dynasties and old Glass Families following scandals involving hidden demi-human ancestry, false classifications and sealed parentage records.
A System Looking Upward
Classification systems were built primarily to define demi-human status. Their political danger increased dramatically once wealthy human families began fearing those same systems might classify them differently than their family histories do.

San Aurelo // Custodial Breakdown
Estate Disappearances
Missing Companions // Broken Custody // Escape
Elite households across San Aurelo have reported a growing number of companion-class demi-humans disappearing from registered custody. Official reports describe theft, trafficking, custodial fraud and interference with private property.
Many Glassbreaker accounts use a simpler word: escape.
Not Every Escape Looks Dramatic
A companion may fail to return from an authorized errand. A tracker may stop reporting during a transfer. Someone may walk through a service gate wearing ordinary work clothes while household staff assume they were sent somewhere else. By the time anyone agrees a disappearance occurred, hours may already have passed.

San Aurelo // University Movement
Student Protests
Younger Voices // Harder Questions // Divided Campuses
Three major universities now sustain active protest movements challenging the Purity Grid, custodial law and government control of ancestry records. The demonstrations are led primarily by young human citizens, though their politics vary sharply.
Students have grown up with leaked footage, foreign journalism, demi-human testimony and digital access to records previous generations were rarely expected to see.
Want independent auditing, stricter privacy protections and limits on how ancestry data can affect ordinary human citizens.
Reject the legal ownership of demi-humans and increasingly coordinate with sanctuary and escape networks.
Defend traditional classifications and argue that weakening the Grid threatens national safety and human continuity.
Sympathy Contamination
A leaked Bureau phrase increasingly used in reference to younger citizens describes pro-demi-human attitudes as “sympathy contamination.” The wording has become protest material in its own right.

Mythic Rumors
Bloodlines // Demi-Humans // Unverified Reports
Rumors circulating through government, research and resistance channels claim that at least one mythic-origin demi-human child may have been hidden somewhere around Lake Mythren without being correctly classified by the Purity Grid.
No public evidence confirms the story. Reports contradict one another, supposed markers cannot be independently verified, and several alleged sightings have already been disproven.
The Rumors
Why It Matters
Mythic demi-human bloodlines are politically explosive precisely because every institution assigns them a different kind of value. Researchers see data. Wealthy families see rarity. Governments see classification problems. Resistance networks see people who will never be safe while everyone else is arguing over what they are worth.
Mythic Rumors // Lake Mythren

San Aurelo // Foreign Relations
Foreign Pressure
Borders // Sanctuary // Competing Law
San Aurelo's custodial system has increasingly become an international problem. Neighboring governments are no longer consistently accepting the premise that a demi-human legally classified as property inside San Aurelo must remain property after crossing a border.
Demands access to refugee and seizure records while challenging San Aurelan custodial claims through legal and diplomatic channels.
Refuses to return escaped demi-humans treated by San Aurelo as recoverable assets, making its ports and routes politically infuriating.
Closes routes after Aurelean drone incursions and continues to frustrate San Aurelo's attempts to monitor activity beyond the northern border.
A Legal Boundary San Aurelo Cannot Control
Inside San Aurelo, ownership status is treated as domestic law. Outside it, that status competes with foreign citizenship rules, sanctuary policy and governments that simply refuse to recognize San Aurelan ownership claims.
Foreign Pressure // 2097 A.E.

San Aurelo // Resistance Network
The Glassbreakers
People // Information // Escape // Resistance
The Glassbreakers are not one army, headquarters or command structure. They are a loose network of cells, sympathizers, smugglers, record forgers, students, workers and escaped demi-humans connected by overlapping goals and practical cooperation.
Their greatest strength is not military force. It is the ability to make San Aurelo's systems less reliable.
What Cells Do
What They Exploit
A Network, Not a Uniform
Some Glassbreakers sabotage records. Some drive vehicles. Some hide people for a single night. Some never meet an escaped demi-human at all and simply pass along information at the right moment. That fragmentation makes the movement difficult to destroy because removing one cell rarely removes the routes around it.
The state increasingly describes civilian support for these networks as sympathy contamination. The Glassbreakers have begun using the phrase themselves.
